What is the best dog breed?
Pic and explanation please ;)
Two children, one adult. One 13 yr old (who is the one pushing for the dog, so will take most responsibility) and an 8 yr old. We live in a flat, but have a park right next door. The dog can be exercised in the morning and after school and on weekdays (normally) everyone should be out from roughly 9 till 4. On the weekends there's all the time in the world.
Oh, we have owned a labrador before. But I'd like to explore other breeds. Or I might get a mutt, they sound lovable. I like the look of husky mixes.

If you are looking for a large dog, I would suggest a German Shepard. They are very loyal. Also, Shepards are very intelligent so get them some good training very early on, they can be quite a wonderful pet.

Of course, there just is no "best" dog breed. Everyone will tell you something different depending on their experience with various breeds, what they own, their lifestyles, if a breed's look pleases them, what their preferences are, or maybe "just because".
One of my first considerations, as you haven't a fenced yard outside your door is size of the dog in relation to potty training and housetraining....
Then, I would seriously consider what the breed was bred to do, as "instincts" and tendencies vary thusly. A hunting dog will scent and want to hunt. A herding dog is more reactive to movement and will want to herd. Etc In breed standards, general temperament is noted: as "aloof", "bold", "wary", "inquisitive", "sensitive", etc etc
Huskies are sled dogs and want to RUN. Beautiful dogs, but not recommended for apt. living.
I would also recommend, as a parent, to insure your daughter's responsibility for the puppy to make a "contract" with her, and part of that contract is to have her take the puppy to obedience classes! It will teach her tons to be a good, proper trainer and will help her and the puppy bond.
"Mutts": remember a mutt is a dog of mixed breeds. They will have some traits from the breeds they are mixed with. So, a Lab/Golden will be nothing like a Sheltie/Australian Shepherd, and those will be nothing like a Jack Russell/Chow, which will be nothing like a Chihuahua/Poodle.......

The Havanese
Its a smaller bichon type about 9 to 12lbs and new to the AKC registry so rarely heard of.
It is super loving and cuddly, often a Velcro dog that never wants to leave its humans. The hair is more likely to come off in clumps of through brushing instead of falling out all over the floor like other dogs. it is considered Hypo allergenic.
The back legs are ever so slightly longer then the front so it seems like the dog is always happy and bouncy. They are the cutest frolickers ever!
I have 4

Hay, get a staffordshire bull terrior. They are the best! My family has had them since i can remember. i grew up around my uncles one and then we got our own when my sister was born, years on i have a little brother and a new dog. The staff is great with kids, hes so sweet. My brother is 7 now and my sister is 11 they both love him, hes fun and he listens. Best thing is that he is always happy, as all the staffys we have had have been, he has to be left alone most on monday because of work, school and college but when we come home hes happy and playful. My uncle loved him so much he went and got two staff pups for his little boys. Best thing is i think that they understand your mood. Like if we want to play ours gets hyper and plays but if we are Just chilling out he will come and sit at the side of the sofa and just chill also i think they are quick learners. Ours is not alowd upstairs and he knows that. He always understands us in three different languages lol
Sorry i went on, but staffs are the best!
Source(s): p.s. they are not like pitbulls as some people think, they are nothing like that. But they are protective of their family (owners) if they think your in trouble, but they are not violent unless thats how you bring them up - How do you think about the answers? What will the dog do while there is nobody at home from 9 till 4? Seven hours is a long time for a dog to be left alone.

Honestly, everyone will say that there dog is the best breed because they are a good dog. I personally like mutts. I have one and he is a great dog. Plus, pure-bred usually have more health problems. I don't know about you, but I don't care for toy breeds. It's like having a slightly over sized, barking rat. With that said, I do like German Shepards, Huskies, and Labs. Sorry I don't have pics. Just google it.

Depends on what you are looking for. Intelligence, get a Border Collie. Loyalty, get a German Shepherd. Great with children who pull and grab ears, Golden Retrievers or Newfoundlands. Goldens are pretty strung out as puppies, but after 18 months, they mellow out and become big fuzzy throw pillows. You can't beat (resist) a big fuzzy head in your lap when feeling down. Want a fun dog, any color Lab will do, he he, they only act dumb, but they know how to get to you.

Well it depends which you would like theres the herding breeds. A good big dog is a border collie

Working breed I would recommend
The bullmastiff which is an incredible dog its big but gentle same as the great dane. They are bpth great with kids, people, and other dogs.

Now a small dog would be the english bulldog or the boxer. They are both very loveable breeds.

For sporting, gundogs, and hounds I suggest the golden retriever or the labrador. These dogs are perfect for first time owners plus thier easy to train. They also get along with kids, people, and take dogs in easily.

(the first picture is when they are puppys and the second is when they are full grown)

Now for small dogs and for apartment life the Yorkshire terrier, pug, or japanese chin. I have a yorkie myself and he's my baby. Yorkies give lots of love and love to be with thier owners.

Pugs are loyal, affectionate, and playful and it is also quick to learn.
The japanese chin is an affectionate and devoted pet and is highly playful yet easy to train.
