Dark Brown or Light Brown?
To make chocolate chip cookies from scratch do you use light brown or dark brown sugar? The recipe only says to use packaged brown sugar?
*Thanks*

I typically use light brown sugar, but use whatever you have on hand.

I normally use light brown, but once all I had was dark so I used that, same amount. That was the best batch of M&M cookies I've ever made. Then I ran out of the dark and was left with golden brown, and that's still a great substitute. I don't think I'll ever get a bag of light brown again.

Most recipes call for light brown, but it doesn't really matter. There's a little more molasses in dark brown, so the flavor is more intense, and the cookies will be a little darker

Either one is fine. I rarely keep dark brown, and use light 99% of the time, even if a recipe calls for dark!

Honestly. I don't think it matters. Brown sugar is simply white sugar with molasses added to it. Dark brown sugar has more molasses than light brown sugar. Either would be fine.

l prefer the richer flavor you get with dark brown. l even use it in some recipes that just say "sugar". l like the raw sugars also.
