You actually have to apply through the tv station, with an explination of what it is, your story behind it, and a video to make sure you have enough presence to appear on tv.
They're retardedly expensive and I'm sure you can find a local artist just as good for 1/10 the price.

I would think you would need to make an appointment and be on a huge waiting list. I don't really see a point in that though, unless you are a tattoo "collector" type, maybe want to add a really special piece to your sleeve or something. I would just go to a regular place. There are tons of great tattoo artists out there, who aren't on TV and don't charge you quadruple the value of a tattoo.
Just check around, word of mouth, see some work from various artists.
And ALWAYS remember:
A GOOD TATTOO IS NOT CHEAP. A CHEAP TATTOO IS NOT GOOD!

You can walk in. You won't get on the show, as they only shoot on certain days and if you want to get tattooed on the show, you have to apply on their website.
If you walk into the shop, you will definitely not see Kat Von D. She only comes in for shooting. But the shop is open all the time--I drive by it every day--and the other tattoo artists are there. If they're not booked, I'm sure they'll tattoo you on the spot.
And they're not that expensive. The artists (other than Kat) charge about $200/hour which is really not that bad.
It's on La Brea and Fountain Ave in Hollywood. You should stop by.

Most places you can just walk in and if they have time, they can do it right then. Most of the time, you have to come back the next day or something. For LA INK. Im sure it costs hundereds more then a regular tattoo. If you live close by, it couldn't hurt to stop by and find out though. :)

You can do either. There are more artists there than what they show on the television. This is what her website says :"The current shop hours are:
EVERYDAY: NOON to MIDNIGHT
NOTE: We will be open from NOON to 6pm on New Year's Eve.
Walk Ins more than welcome! SO, If you're in the area,
come by and get tattooed, and check out the shop!"
If you want to be on the show, you have to put in an application which can be found on tlc.com.
And they have a minimum 200$ for any tattoo. But you pay for what you get; so you get the gist.

You can actually get a tattoo there. Although they don't do "walk-in's" you have to make an appointment. Although you don't have to make it through the t.v. show. Not everyone who has ever gotten a tattoo there was on t.v.
If you wanted one you would have to make an appointment, and pay a ridiculous amount of money.

Bear in mind that if you go to the shop when they are not shooting you will be working with artists other than the ones you see on the show. The artist on the show are only at the shop while the show is shooting.
Source(s): A friend of mine was in LA recently and stopped by the shop. The only person working there who was on the show was Pixie. My friend overheard her telling a customer who was asking for Kat that the artists from the show are only there while TLC is shooting. - Anonymous1 decade ago
Tattoo is a study that really exists.
