Is Honda too late to the party?

Honda is rolling out their new chopper today, the Fury. V-twin engine, stretched frame, raked front end, 21" alloy front wheel, long teardrop gas tank, etc.

Do you think folks will respond to this? Did they show up too late for the chopper party? Do people want a metric knock-off of Jesse James? Or do people even want a chopper any more? Are stretched out choppers old news?

Or is it all about price? What price would you pay for a metric chopper? I think they're supposed to hit dealerships in March, and I don't think they've announced the price yet, maybe they'll do that at today's press conference.

What do ya'll think?

The website isn't up yet (12:30am EST), but it'll be http://www.furyisunleashed.com/ when they fire it up later today.

The Japanese are a bunch of business men no ideas of their own. Its easier to improve on things than to invent them. You have more resources when improving on something else that someone has made. Take the automobile. Where did they start the mass production of the auto? In the US. Who built the latest plants over in Japan after WW 2? The US. Finally who buys mostly Japanese cars? The US. Now the people wonder why this country is where it is. Its because we dont buy the products made here and support this great country. We have all our money going to foreign countries but not coming back. We spend over 7 billion dollars a year to Middle eastern countries for oil. If we drilled here and more in Alaska the reason the US bought it wed have enough to last us until 2050. By that time the electric car would be perfected and Id only need gas for my atv and lawn mowers. Its getting late but not so late we cant turn the US around. Take a look at your lives and lets make the change. Peace out...

Honda never ever does anything without a plan of attack. Just look at their track record in both autos and motorcycles....In this country ( the USA) it is they who singlehandedly resurected teh motorcyle industry in this country...Back in the 60's when HD wa having a terrible time of things Honda came out with the HOnda 50-90 and 125 bikes with a phenominally successful advertsing campaign that put Americans back on teh road with very very high quality and cheap to buy and run motorcycles...From there ( after at least a decade) teh motorcycle industry took off in this country....HD and the rest owe a debt of gratitude to Honda for the market that all manufacturers now enjoy in the USA...If HOnda is going out tiwht a chopper scooter I would not bet on it beign a failure...They are too good a what they do based on a qaulity product/and very sound marketing practices..

Here is my reaction to the new Honda Fury.

    Big Deal.

Does nothing for me. There is nothing earth shattering or unique to this new machine. What is the point. To me this is another Harley inspired motorcycle. Shaft drive is nice. Seat looks horribly uncomfortable.

Single crank pin ala Harley. Dual balancers is an improvement over the engines from Milwaukee. I strongly suspect vibration will be minimal. That is one point for Honda.

Other than that, one more new motorcycle that does not suit my needs.

Honda could do so much better than this.

V-Twin?, stretched frame? raked? 21" wheel? Teardrop tank? I thought I was reading a Harley Brochure. A`ccording to a lot of posts I read on here, that sounds like 50 yr. old technology. Why would any body but us "know nothing" Harley riders want another cheap, imitation, look alike? Oh well.

  • might just be a little to late,,,its more about the bobber scene now,,,choppers are dying out to all the fad crazed weekenders. the fury would need some money to look good, for instance, the tank looks too small,,the rear fender needs lowered,,,those big *** turn signals need to go..looks like they kind of tried to mix different attributes of chopper/bobber, such as the small tank. kind of a mix of ideas like harley

did with the crossbones that had the damn 2 ft high solo seat. i do,

however like how they addded the low profile radiator like the yammies have, but for now ill stick with my spirit.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. I agree with Red. Choppers were the coolest thing ever back in 1968. Now at best it is a pretty metal sculpture that is nearly unrideable or more often it's just cornball nostalgia, a novelty item. If you are into that cheesiness, into riding a bike that costs a ton and has zero handling and horsepower then you probably want a Harley that is customized and one of a kind. You don't want your gas tank with an air brushed skull on it to look like everyone elses gas tank with an air brushed skull on it, you want your airbrushed skull to be one of a kind cornball cheese.

I kinda thought the same thing about the Rocker, but evidently there are some folks out there that still want the wide tire low long bike look. Doesn't sound like anything that would appeal to me, but I'm guessing it'll sell.

Nate, that sounds like a challenge... how about we make the road Route 66, Chicago to LA and back?

Honda doesn't get invited to the party, they just show up regardless. Like the rich nerdy guy at a party that brings beer for everyone so they'll like him... when the beer is gone, nobody likes him anymore.

Harley IS cruiser... all the others are pathetic imitations, and the people buying into them are even more pathetic. If you have sniper plastic in your driveway, it serves you right to have your mobile home repo'd. Buy at home and keep your home.... gee I wonder why the economy is in the tank?

How can a bike that is mass produced in a factory be a chopper? Just something else to get money from wannabes, posers and sidewalk commandos.

wow holy **** dude, talk about living in the past, ever heard about the tokyo firebombings or Heroshima and Nagasaki? I think they've payed more than what they were due for Pearl.

Don't get me wrong, I lost family to that war, but the hatred can end, it's been 60yrs and two atom bombs for christ sake.

about the chopper, I think it's a great idea seeing as there's almost no existent market for a mass produced chopper like that, I'm excited to see it and would consider buying one if it looks good... if I had any money.
