Do you find that you listen to the kind of music your deceased parents did just to be closer to them?
I listen to country because it's what my dad liked. I feel like it makes me closer to him somehow. What about you?

Yes ! After my Dad died, I would turn on the Cajun music station. The music and the Cajun French spoken would just make me feel closer to him somehow. It gave me a good feeling, I could not explain it. I still tune in sometimes, but now I don't cry, I just smile and remember Daddy.

Good question! I guess I do. But a funny thing is that when I was a teen and into 50's rock & roll, my parents hated it. Of course, I didn't care for much of their music either, but I did like some of it. In my late teens I grew to love country music (when it still was country) and continued into adulthood. My parents began to like some of the old country as they got older and so we kind of met in the middle!

Not to feel closer, I just love some of it, my grandmother instilled in me a love for all music. Of course I doubt she would care for gangsta rap, and heavy metal, I have trouble listening to them even though I do like some of the gospel rap they are doing now. I cataloged our albums last year (LP's) and had just shy of 1000, and I'm going to do the 45's and there's about 1500 of them, and we have about fifty 78's, and 235 cassettes. Our music runs from about 1910 to now from classical and light opera, gospel and Native American, right up to Celine Dion and Tracy Byrd. I could live without a tv just don't take my music.

I have. My parents listened to Big Band music (also country) & I've been trying to find some of the tapes she used to have. I believe she got them from Time/Life. I'll try e-bay if I strike out again.

I do listen to swing and jazz as that is what they listened too along with Andy Williams and Bing but I grew to like it. If I hear a certain song I think of my Dad though.

My parents havent died but my aunt was my second mommy (my mom's sister). She died when I was 18. My mom was a single mom, and my aunt took care of me while she worked. She listened to oldies music ALL the time. Mostly 60's, but sometimes late 50's or 70s. I would listen to it with her and we would make mix tapes of our fav songs. Its not really the music I listen to all the time today, but I do listen to it sometimes and remember the times we spent together.

No. My parents were not that interested in music. The only music they ever played were Mitch Miller albums and I always hated it. Oh, and some woman singing "How much is that doggie in the window". The most stupid song I have ever heard.

Whenever we took a trip, my parents would sing in harmony from the front seat. I remember a lot the the songs but Red Sails in the Sunset.. always reminds me of my Dad.

The country songs your Daddy listened to remind you of him. I prefer country songs because that is what we listened to as I was growing up and that is what I am used to. My daddy died and I still listen to country.
My mom died when I was a baby. From what I gather from her VERY religious parents, the only music she listened to or was even allowed to listen to was Gospel. I do listen to Gospel occasionally, but I don't listen to it because of her.
