World War II - great battles, great leaders, and no one can deny the power of the flag raising at Iwo Jima. My great-grandfather was killed trying to liberate France in 1944. I study this war because it is part of my history and my life. I never knew him because of it, and I want to respect him by upholding his memory.

I wouldn't call it my "favorite" or "favourite". (Don't you love American/British English variances?)

The most interesting past war was WW2 in the Pacific. I really thought about what the Navy had to offer that war. I visited Pear Harbor and it was amazing. I was deeply touched by visiting where the USS Arizona lay to rest as well as her sister ships.

I have also been to Guam. There is a beach where they have large (I don't know what to call it) panoramic pictures on display. You can see the American landing there at the same beach. The land scape hasn't changed a bit, but there isn't any fighting now. In the pictures you see the battle as it happened and you can look up and you are standing right there. It is a little eerie.

I am a Navy veteran and studied some of the battles of that war. My grandfather, may he rest in peace, was in the Philippines but he was Army then.

I guess I am interested in what happened then. Only because I've got to actually travel and see some of the places where the great battles occurred. The Japanese was a tough enemy...but now they are great friends. I've even been to Japan.

I think I like it because it show how former enemies can resolve their quarrels and become allies.

I'm going with Bush War(Rhodesia) because the western world supported the Zimbabweans who promptly destroyed a prosperous country, most misundertstood war.

As a life-time student of military history, I have to say that they all have fascinating points of interest, however my favourite would have to be World War 2. The opponents were so well defined and easy to identify.

Spanish American War - short, sweet, low casualties, US picked up cool tropical territories (Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam, Philippines) and best of all it starred Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders!!!

Well not that their should be a favorite war but...im more interested in ww2. Although it was offal and it had alot of killing its very interesting the participation that some countries have in it. The end is very interesting also. How Germany gave in and what they had to agree to do.

My favourite war is the one that never happens. There's nothing glamourous about it, even if they do look good in the uniforms!

I used to have a strong interest in the victories of Alexander of Macedonia, primarily because of the way he handled the civilian population.
