should we send IOU'S to IRS instead of paying ?
I live in California....they are going to send us IOU"S instead of Tax refund checks.......usually we end up paying/oweing.......but heck ..I think I will be sending the Tax collectors a IOU ------at least its not evading taxes like these cheats Obama is putting in office.....then maybe I can get a govmnt high level position!.........what do you think?

You can but they won't be accepted.

I was wondering about that issue for you guys in CA. Are the utility companies, grocery stores, etc. accepting IOU's as payment also? I have a friend who is a teacher out there and she is now being paid on an IOU! Never heard of such a thing!! I would send the IRS an IOU, hell, if they haven't gone after these high profile guys - the should be leaving people like you and ma alone! Seems like "selective enforcement" to me.

You can send the California tax board an IOU - the IRS is actually sending people refunds this year.

Seeing as the IRS isn't sending IOUs on refunds (your State is) I doubt they would find the humor in it.

This is an interesting proposal !
If they can fob you off with an IOU, you should be in a similar legal position to do likewise.

The IRS has no dog in the CA budget debacle. They won't be amused by your IOU.

If you are seriously considering it, and it is not just humor,
I would strongly advise against it. The IRS may give you a "frivolous" return penalty, as well as the normal penalty and interest. Don't go there.
In California, they may send the Terminator to visit you.

We use to get away with saying the bill got lost in the mail. But now we get late charges for that.
