How to get my kitten to stop biting so hard.?

My cat is just under a year old. He play bites alot, but gently. But sometimes, he will glare at your arm or leg for a second, and the blacks in his eyes get HUGE and he pounces and sinks his teeth into you. It hurts bad, I yell at his or push him away or sometimes slap his butt. The look in his eyes when he does this is scary. It is like a wild cat, pouncing on his pray. My boyfriend jokes that he is possessed when he does this. How do I make this stop?

lol, my male cat did the same thing when he was younger. it's just a youth phase and he will get over it eventually. have you had your cat fixed? if not, do so soon and that will help calm him down too. his eyes are just dialating when he is playing like that. don't worry, he'll grow out of it.

What I did with my kittens when they would bite HARD is to push my hand further into their mouth (instead of reactively pulling away). This ended the game because they didn't like that and they'd spit me out LOL.

(you don't do it hard so as to hurt the cat, just a little -far enough that it's not comfortable) When you pull away suddenly, you inspire their hunt and chase instincts.

By pushing your hand further into the mouth, (REMEMBER:firmly, gently and just a LITTLE-like 1/4 inch- you don't want to injure the cat's teeth or jaw) the reaction it produces is the direct opposite to the hunt/chase. Of course every now and then, the little psycho kitties might not get it, but it is worth a try as I've had success with over a dozen cats using this method.

I had a cat that did this. It was just the way he was. The vet once told me that even though he was neutered that occasionally there might be the chance that there is a third testicle that they didn't see while they did surgery. And that might be why he was so aggressive. The only way to find out was to have him tested and I didn't want to spend all that money to do it. I just put up with him until he got old and lazy and less active. And even then he would still bite me from time to time just for the hell of it. Usually, I'd just smack the sheeeet out of him. And still he would bite, but when he did, he would take off running because he knew the consequences.

Where's a cat whisperer when you need them, huh???

It is very normal. The best thing to do is to start training your kitten. When your cat bites you, say NO gently but in a firm way and tap the nose. Then, after that you leave the room and close the door. Leave your kitten there for 5 min then open the door.

well your kitten may be still teething, which is normal. It could be that you have a certain smell that your kitten is attractive to/may think it needs to to attack. If that is so maybe try using a different soap, lotion, body spray, etc.(something none scented). It could be that your kitten is playful and needs more attention and caring time or if you don't have that much spare time you should maybe look into getting another kitten so your kitten wont be lonely, this could also tire your kitten out.If you do so happens you get another kitten make sure the kittens have toys(many) to play with. Even if you didn't get another kitten your kitten still needs to have toys to play with.My advise to buy a toy that your kitten likes,I suggest to take your kitten to a PETCO,PETSMART,etc. sort of let your kitten choose the toy b/c if you pick the wrong toy you could have spent your money on a toy that your kitten doesn't even play with. When you get a toy that your kitten consider a "bestfriend" you can distract your kitten so instead of biting you, you can take your kitten's toy and throw it to the side, this will take your kitten's mind off biting you.IMPORTANT:Try avoid slapping your kitten, or pushing your kitten away.If you do this it will cause your kitten to be less aggressive with you.

He's just playing and might still be teething. I would also reccomend having a spray bottle filled with water near by you and spray him with the water every time he attacks. He might also end up growing out of it, even still, try to break the habit.

Source(s): My cat did the same thing except she only did it when I was sleeping, she ended up stop doing it as she got older.

That happens when the cat is getting annoyed and wants to get away. Probably you were doing something that he doesn't like, like rubbing his belly, or holding him for too long. Your can see that he will start to get impatient (e.g. pushing you with his paw, whacking tail, etc.). Just let him go, or he may hurt you badly.

Never ever hit your cat even if its gentle.

Cats bite if they get mad or they want space.

    Yelling will NOT help!!!!!!

Just be nice and gentle and say THAT HURTS and walk away don't yell just say it loud.

    HOPE THIS HELPS:)

have a water bottle close at hand and when he goes to pounce spray him with the water and tell him 'NO!!!" that should work
