Can someone explain how these items will stimulate the economy?

Obama wanted these programs to pay back for his votes. He knew he could not pass these later so this is why he needed to pass the stimulus quickly. As we all know when things sit around a long time they begin to stink. This why he put fear in the ignorant 5% of this stimulus goes for infrastructure amazing!!!!!

$300 million for grants to combat violence against women

This will hire people to start programs to help women

$4.2 billion for “neighborhood stabilization activities” (to include 1.5mil

This will hire police officers and probation officers etc.

$650 million for digital-TV converter boxes

This will help people so they can buy more widgets not inconveniences

$90 million to educate people about the need for converter boxes

This will hire people to educate people

$4.8 million polar bear exhibit at the Providence, RI zoo

This will hire people for the exhibit

$1.5 million water ride in Miami, FL.

This will hire people to run the park

$20 million minor league baseball museum in Durham, North Carolina;

$20 million for renovations at the Philadelphia Zoo;

This will hire people to fix zoo

And how does it stimulate our Republican economy? These people that get hired buy stuff. This is not rocket science.

In a perfect world we would have cut that much from our current budget, to stimulate the economy. Unfortunately the Obama stimulus scam is going to remove about 30% of our disposable income. The economy will contract. The Dems. seem to want a Roosevelt type socialist Depression.

It seems to me that people will be needed to be employed to enact all of these programs. That means that they will have money in their pockets to spend which will help other sectors of the economy. You mean to tell me that you don't see the correlation of buying hybrid vehicles and the economy? Or constructing buildings? How do you think the economy is going to get better?

Okay, here's how it works: griping about the stimulus package will give stress-related illnesses to thousands of irate conservatives. As a direct result, some of them will die. Then decent, industrious American workers will get their jobs. By decreasing the labor pool, we'll reduce unemployment.

They will provide jobs, drive up demand for products. Most construction workers are Americans.

Tax cuts don't work any better than the above do as proven by multiple failed attempts in the past 8 years.

The only economy the Democrats are trying to stimulate is the political economy. They are looking for political return on this "stimu-less" package, not economic return.

Let me put it this way, what is the difference between spending that money in the military instead of on that list?
