Hockey and Triskaidekaphobia?

In honor of this being Friday the 13th...

Do you have Triskaidekaphobia (A fear of the number 13) or paraskevidekatriaphobia (the more specific fear of Friday the 13th)?

Currently, Pavel Datysuk of the Detroit Red Wings is probably the most popular/recognizable player in the NHL to wear the number 13. Who are your favorite players, current or all time to wear the lucky number 13?

I have never been a jersey "numbers" person for some reason. I can tell you what number Gretzky wore....LOL

    So, I had to "peek"........

    Dan Carcillo (PHX)

    Mike Cammalleri (CAL)

    Bill Guerin (NYI)

    Dan Hinote (STL)

    Pavel Datsyuk (DET)

    Mats Sundin (VAN)

    Glenn Metropolit (PHI)

    Slava Kozlov (ATL)

    Nikolai Zherdev (NYR)

    Ray Whitney (CAR)

    Andrew Cogliano (EDM)

    Krys Barch (DAL)

So, I will say my favourite of this bunch is Daniel Carcillo, he can make your day unlucky by kicking the snot bubbles out of you OR scoring the occassional goal.

Another that sticks out as an unlucky #13 is Glenn Metropolit and you know why. However, he is not as unlucky as his brother who is doing life for murder I do believe.

Cammalleri is having a lucky season with a shooting % of .177.....by my math, that would mean that goalies save % against him comes in at .823, they haven't been so lucky! Makes Chris Osgood's save % seem pretty darn good.

Bill Guerin scored his 400th goal not long ago...pretty lucky. As a member of the NYI....pretty unlucky.

Dan Hinote is planning on joining the FBI when he retires from hockey....perhaps doing "X Files" on the #13?

Mats Sundin....pretty good player without a cup....shoulda stayed with Quebec/Colorado and he would have two...unlucky. Lucky on the International stage though.

Slava Kozlov? Remember that time Scott Stevens made him feel pretty unlucky? Keep you head up....LOL I believe he is the all-time leader in SO goals....lucky bugger, still too concussed to know he is lucky.

Nic Zherdev? Flying under the radar with a lucky season.

Ray Whitney? Lucky #13......how about lucky "W".....Whitney, Williams, Cam Ward, Aaron Ward, Weight, Wesley and Wallin were all members of the 2005-06 Carolina Hurricane Cup Champs. Can you say WoW?

Andrew Cogliano......struck gold with Team Canada...twice. Two time lucky!

Krys Barch- The unluckiest one of this bunch? Yes.

Pavel Datsyuk? Luck comes easy as an alien.......http://d.yimg.com/eur.yimg.com/ng/sp/p5/20080523/2...

Come on- you cannot tell me he is not an alien. Hurry up and retire Dan Hinote, this needs investigating.

Here is a picture of his father to help you with the search!

1: Not sure. Really, just the ability to sit back, have a beer, and watch a game. Or go out to a bar, have a beer, and watch the game. 2: I'm a Flames fan, so I'd like it to involve them, though I'd say they're a big long shot. All the matchups I'd love to see in the finals are just way too unlikely. 3: Don't have a daughter, but maybe a guy like Jonathan Toews? He seems like a nice kid. 4: Gonna watch it at home I think, maybe go to a friend's house or a pub. Nothing too big. 5: I think Stamkos looks pretty good, and the revamped Lightning are gonna be a contender as long as their D holds up. 6: Totally biased, but I'd love to see Jarome Iginla get a piece, Trevor Linden, just so he could get one before packing it in, same with Mats Sundin. In terms of guys who were working for it all year long, Malkin and Ovechkin were performing like they really wanted it, and if there was some way to give it to Luongo without giving it to the hated Canucks, that would also be great. Can't quite think of nine. 7: I dunno. Detroit's depth is just crazy, but I think I like Filppula on that line. He's been solid for a while now, and it seems like he could do something special with more ice time and better partners like Franzen and Hank.

Thanks, I just realized that it was Friday the 13th. I like 13, I was born on the thirteenth so I always liked the number. Occasionally I get a birthday on Friday the 13th- I think my 13th one was (too many years ago)

I guess I am slightly superstitious in that I will associate with the no, Playing pool I always rack the balls with 13 at the front etc.

Tanguay switched to 13 when he came to the Habs but has been injured since...maybe there is something to 13.

I always liked the football QB's who wear it- not many NHLers. Only Sundin and I am Not a sundin fan

I also did not know what Triskaidekaphobia meant. Thought it was fear of trisha.

Nope, not scared of the number 13 or Friday the 13th, but the Devils organization is! Lou Lamoriello is pretty strict with the team; he bans the use of #13 because he believes its unlucky (and he also doesn't let players grow facial hair during the regular season).

Anyway...Pavel Datsyuk is my favorite player to wear #13. I think he's a great player, and I love the Datsyuk-Deke!

Ahhhhhh Friday the 13th!!!! *hides in the closet for 24 hours*

Nah, just kidding. I'm not very superstitious at all. I'm a science kind of guy, so the fear of bad things happening revolving the #13 and Friday the 13th just doesn't fly for me :P

Thanks to Loblaw for grabbing all the players with #13, I'm not good at remembering them all either.

Hmmm... Mike Cammalleri (CAL). Has become a consistant points getter for Calgary. Had a 80+ point season two years back, 50+ last year because he was out with an injury 1/3 the season, and on pace to score about 80 this year. And I just like Calgary.

Numbers don't scare me. Usually on Friday the 13'th I would be heading to Port Dover, Ontario for a huge bike rally. The town of about 5000 turns into about 100,000 on the 13'th, somehow I think they might come up a bit short on this one. Something about snow that inspires a guy to leave his $30,000 Harley in the garage.

Speaking of number 13, wasn't that worn by Ulf Samuelson or Esa Tikkanen for a while? I seem to remember one of those super pests wearing it for a couple years but can't find any evidence of it.

Source(s): Kenny Linseman, that might be who I was thinking of. Thanks, neighbour.

Quite the opposite. 13 is my lucky number, and soemthing suprisingly good always happens on Friday the 13th.I don't have a fave player who sports 13, I lean toward 10 and 12. By default, Nivotny.

  • Actually, since I was born on a Friday the 13th,( which could explain the Islanders fan in me), I am supposed to be immune from all the bad luck and it should be my luckiest day of the year..

Bill Guerin would be my favorite right now. It must be working, as he is one of only two Islanders to have played every game this season.
