They do go in ice and snow.

I'll admit the stock Dunlops are not snow tires.

    But they still go.

There's humorous stories to go with the reputation.

I'm not a Harley rider, so I'm not taking up for them. When it's cold here Harley's and BMW's are about the only bikes I see on the road. To me you just sound like one of those guys that feels a need to bash all things Harley related. You know being a bigot isn't just about skin color or religion, it is about making general statements and judgments concerning any group of people, so consider yourself a bigot.

I don't know where you ride, but when I'm out riding in the Wisconsin cold, I see more Harleys than anything else.

It's not that I'm biased either. I ride a gixxer most of the time.

There are tons of poseurs out there with Harleys, but a lot of real hard-core riders too.

My husband has a Harley and we ride a lot in the spring and summer and fall. We love it! It is already dangerous out there in clear warm weather. But way worth it. We Harley riders are smarter then to be out in the ice and snow. Harley riders are also very proud of their bikes and the fact they ride, hence the coats and boots. By the way did you ride a bike to this rally?

Ok here in Wisconsin, I see riders out all winter long. Heck I was out last week. I don't, ride in the winter for two reasons. 1. It's just plain stupid. 2. Road salt, is very hard on a bike. Sand on the roads can ruin your day.

I do not wear my riding gear, for anything but riding. I own a HD and I don't own any HD riding gear. You don't have to own, a HD to buy HD gear.

I'm in NH, there is very little ice on the actual roads now. Snow on the edges. I saw three BMW's pass by my house this morning.

You can't link Harley Riders as fair-weather riders-maybe materialistic, but there are just as many standard, sportbike, and other cruiser riders staying warm in their cars and trucks.

A lot of "wanna-be's" have jackets & boots. Haven't you ever seen a t-shirt message that said, "I don't just own this t-shirt. I have a Harley!" Maybe it wasn't a Harley type rally. Maybe the Harley's had their own rally going on. I've been to many "Harley" rallys & didn't see any crotch rockets. What does that mean?

Cabin Fever. I hate cold weather, so I never go out in it unless I have to. It just sucks being inside all the time. In the summer I am outside constantly!

We don't get much snow and ice here in south Alabama but if I wanted to ride, I'd ride a bicycle with playing cards in the spokes. I'll put on my leather and ride anytime I feel I want to ride. Makes no difference to me if the rode in or walked. The fact is they can afford a cool bike and the wardrobe to go along with it.

I don't think its a matter of who rides what, but who uses their neurons for more than just picking up a beer. I agree with Mustange... that the smart riders stay the hell away from snow and ice. I hit black ice once with my 1250 sportster projects and I veer far away from it now. Rain is another thing, if its raining you can manage, ice is dangerous enough for cars, on a motorcycle its just a death wish.
