does my dog have Hematoma? please help very worried!?

ok so i have a 5 year male chihuahua and i noticed lately his ear has been flopped over. Today i got a closer look at it and it is swollen. I touched it by accident and he yelped. I did a little research and i saw something that sounded like my dogs case called "Hematoma" What should i do? Does my dog need surgery? Please help as i do not want to give him away. Thank you

First off, this is not an emergency! See your regular veterinarian tomorrow. Hematomas can sometimes be drained without surgery or anesthesia. They are often accompanied by an ear infection which will also need to be treated.

And please do not give away pets because they have an illness. You are responsible for your own pets, don't pass your problems on to someone else.

. Not much to worry about here. This surgery is routine and not very serious. No major organs are involved and there is not much opportunity for the vet to make a mistake. Its not a whole lot more complex than me popping a zit, and the vet will do it in a much more sanitary way than I will. Make sure you get instructions from the vet on keeping the hematoma from happening again. Then follow her instructions.

If the ear is swollen like a bubble and flopped over, it's likely an aural hematoma. The hematoma is easily corrected with surgery, but you'll also need to treat the underlying cause of the hematoma, which is usually a nasty ear infection. In either case, both are easily curable if you follow your veterinarian's directions.

I had a dog that had a hematoma in his ear. It looks like it is thick and sore to the touch. What the vet will do is slice it open and let it drain, then sew it up. My dogs ear would not stand up after that.

Hematoma is nothing to worry about. But if it is that painful, it could be infected. Take him to the vet to get it drained off and he will feel much better. No surgery, they do a needle aspiration.

My dog had a hemotoma in his ear flap and that is what it's like. First of all, assess if it's hard or slightly squishy. If it's hard, you need to decide what to do fairly quickly. What my vet told me is that there are a few options. You can go to the vet and have them empty it and put stitches in or you can just leave it, but it will make your dog's ear wrinkled. I got my dog's drained, but it was a big pain. He had to wear a cone for quite a while, and was on a lot of pain medication.

My border collie/aussie mix had hematoma on both ears. It felt just like a bubble, but a little heavier. My vet said the dog got it from playing too rough with my big dog, who was about 45 lbs. heavier at the time.

Anyway, we brought her to the vet and it was really simple. We just dropped her off, they drained her ears, and a few hours later we picked her up. She had to have her ears taped for a few weeks to prevent it from happening again and she had to wear an e-collar for that time. Having it done wasn't a big deal and it wasn't too expensive. Although that will vary from vet to vet.

You should get your dog in to the vet. It seems to be bothering him and it can be a big deal. But the problem won't be fixed until he is checked up. :)

A hematoma is a bruise, probably nothing requiring surgery. However, I would wonder how a dog got a bruise on it's ear. Take him to the vet, he may have been scratching his ear and it is now infected.

It does sound like but you need a vet diagnosis & treatment. Most need surgery which isn't major & usually fixes the problem. Make vet appt tomorrow.
