Have the Israeli government given up trying to evict the illegal settlers in the West Bank?

They did start with some difficulty to evict a small number but now the numbers have risen to over 280,000 and despite Kadima party lead by Tzipi Livni pledge to remove these settlers it seems unlikly even if she gains some power in the new government that pledge will ever be fullfilled

Michael, the dysfunctional and apartheid Israeli government will spit and sputter and find every excuse known to humankind as to why they CAN'T evict those illegal squatters.

It's not a matter of "trying"; it's a matter of NOT trying.

Tzipi Livni has rejected any deal with Netanyahu and if he carries out his election promises even more settlements will be built (he believes that Israel must directly control at least 50 percent of the West Bank). Ironically, even the ultra right-winger Lieberman has said he would leave his settlement if it meant peace.

Netanyahu's only strategy is to screw the Palestinians down tighter and tighter, which means perpetual warfare. Surely this wont last. The only long-term sustainable solution is for the Palestinians to have complete sovereignty over the West Bank & Gaza.

I'd bet anything that Netanyahu will be a disaster & before long Hezbollah will be looking to twist the knife. Tzipi Livni, for all her faults, at least has a vision that could lead to peace - and I believe her when she says she'll dismantle the settlements.

Most likely; the new government will have to include the radical parties to get a majority with Kadima staying in the opposition. Netanyahu (sp off, I'm sure) will not offend them by doing so. Nothing good happens when parties go partisan. Kadima's hands are tied during the transition.

It belongs to the Palestinian people,as does the rest of Palestine. There is no joint recognition between Hamas and the zionists nor can that ever be,and they are the Palestinian government, whether the U.S. likes it or not. The PLO is for history buffs.

It will keep moving back and forth, but when needed, most settlements will be removed in a final peace agreement. However, some lands will simply become part of Israel in exchange for some Israeli territories becoming part of Palestine. Israel already showed it can do that if necessary when it removed over 20 settlements in the Gaza strip.

The only question is - Can the Palestinians stop their terrorism so peace can move forward?

And beside the point - There have been Jewish people living consequently in Judea and Samaria[Nowadays "The west bank"] for thousands of years. Once a majority, now a clear minority. Why should they be expelled from their lands when the illegal Arab villages/settlement all throughout Israel still exist?

Edit: Regarding what some people wrote about Netanyahu, I see they aren't aware of something great he has in store for the Palestinians. I suggest reviewing what I wrote here for more info:

They have no interest in removing the settlements in Palestinian land, and now with Netanyahu in power all you can see from that man are more settlements springing up.

    Yes.

It goes hand in hand with the desire of the Arab terrorists to have peace,

    peace="settlers" will leave

    no peace="settlers" will stay

The "settlers" don't have to leave, this is land won in war, the owners=Jordan doesn't want it back.

Given their current political turmoil, I doubt they will achieve any solution on settlements any time soon.

Yes and rightfully so. There is nothing illegal about settling on one's own land even if the people claim it's illegal it isn't international land therefore not internationalists place to deem it illegal. Israel is a sovereign country. Some people are just moved against Israel by hatred, so I don't care to move to appease them.

FYI those settlements are on Israeli land. The Area of "West Bank" is an English name. The actual name is Judea and Samaria, Judean land, Judah is our largest tribe and our namesake, we are Jews.

It isn't just Jewish people that have been pushed out of Judea and Samaria during the wars but Christians no longer are the majority in Bethlehem either, the Muslims have 80% majority there now.

As if the "Palestinians" are the only ones with a refugee problem and get to cry victim status while Israel had to move nearly a million people from Muslim dominated lands and abandon property FIVE times the size of Israel because of the Muslim aggression. And what about all the Christians in Muslim dominated lands because Lebanon used to be majority Christian now there are only 1 million Christians in Lebanon while 8million live worldwide because of this Muslim aggression.

So illegal? By who's standards, people that hate Israel? One can't be hypocritical and only claim "illegal" as it pertains against Jewish people and ignore the aggression by Muslims against everyone else. The Muslims have 60+ countries now if they don't like living next to a Christian or a Jew tell THEM to move out not the other way around.
