Lesbian Vampire Killers - Offensive?
Is anyone else offended by this film? Again, it seems that whenever lesbians are mentioned in the media it's followed by a perverted comment and serves the sole purpose of feeding common male fantasy.
I really don't think a minority group should be portrayed in this light. Imagine if instead it were 'Black Vampire Slayers' or 'Jewish Vampire Slayers'.
I don't hate men but a lot of them really do make it hard when they see lesbians in this light. It's like a mixture of sexism and homophobia rolled into one. Homo-sexism if you will.
It's hard to see the humour when the main reaction you get from men is almost always a perverted one. Also, this is geared towards teenage boys.
Straight people may see the funny side but you don't have to live with this everyday. Any lesbians out there agree?
This has nothing to do with stereotypes... the stereotypical lesbian would actually be a bull dyke with short hair, not a bunch of scantily dressed vampires having sex with eachother in front of ogling men.
My point is... it seems that the sole purpose (in the eyes of a LOT of men and the media in general) is to excite men. I'm sorry but that is sexism. Just like if woman in general were only shown in this light.

SO glad you brought that up! I was going to ask exactly the same question!
I saw the advert at a bus stop which I pass every morning on my way to work and was initially shocked!
The more I thought about it the more it irritated me.
Lesbian Vampire Killers? WTF? This is very offensive! Especially as there are people out there who believe in killing gay people just because they are gay. (I am straight by the way)
It isn't a laughing matter! You can call me what you want, too serious, can't take a joke etc but I know me, and I know I have a fantastic sense of humour, I laugh every day all day and find loads of things hilarious. But that's because they are funny
This film looks like a load of rubbish.
Men getting excited about lesbians, and then killing them with their phallic weapons!? PUHLEASE! How misogynistic can you get!? This is blatantly sexist AND homophobic, and I can't believe it is just being passed off as a normal comedy. I have zero respect for the writers, and for James Cordon, and whatever the other one's called. Pathetic. Very offensive mindless rubbish. I am not a man-hater, I am not a lesbian, but I can see how narrow minded and shallow this film is, not to mention that it shows no respect for lesbians by making a mockery out of their sexuality!
I wonder if any of the people involved in creating this film have ever really understood how a real lesbian feels, or what she has had to go through in society because of her sexuality.
I don't think it should be taken for granted that everyone is open minded and accepting of other people who are different or who have a different sexuality, as unfortunately that is not the case.
This film does take it for granted and I don't even understand why lesbians has to be such a blatant part of the film. If it were the other way around and you had lesbians as the majority and they were killing the minority straight male vampires, I think there would be uproar, especially from straight men complaining of sexism and misandry! Not to mention a general feeling of emasculation.
So in answer to your question, yes I find it very offensive, and that's coming from a liberal straight female in a hetero relationship who loves real comedy and real men!

I wear glasses. I'm quite offended by the bespectacled, imbecillic, overweight urchin accompanied by the word, "HUT", likewise Adrian Mole. Harry Potter is maybe a slight improvement on the theme...
From the outside, as a man (albeit one who is awaiting the results of his hormone test with no little anxiety...), lesbian relationships just seem so peaceful. Straight and gay male relationships both seem to me to be about submission and dominance. I daresay that goes on in lesbian relationships too but to me it has always seemed like the most equal partnership there can be. I have probably watched too many D.H.Lawrence films but I feel such envy.

I think part of the humour comes from the fact that lesbian and vampire erotisism is ridiculous. The concept is pure fantasy and styalises the idea of teenage sexual frustration... sucking blood is symbolism for sex, guys like lesbian porn but it is slightly frustrating for them to not be 'involved'. It is a pastiche on the genre, and is just lighthearted entertainment.
They are not being hunted for being lesbians, but I did have some concerns, I haven't seen it yet of course, it seems like it might be OK. Not like Chuck and Larry.

I'm totally with you. I don't feel offended, but it's really not helping the situation, it's not helping peoples' ideas and understanding of what it is to be lesbian, not in a respectful light. It makes us look sex mad and silly, there to be laughed at. Actually being gay is the same as being straight in relationship terms, it is just as serious and spiritual and you still have the same kind of issues and struggles. So naw, it's a silly portrayal and a bit irresponsible.

The film is, indeed, geared towards teenage boys.
In particular, it is geared towards exploiting their hormonal flux in order to make them part with money in order to to see the film - thereby earning the film's producers & distributors lots of lovely Profit.
As for it being demeaning to women, I think that anyone who watches large amounts of this sort of entertainment over long periods of time is probably more likely to view women as sex objects - because it is their only 'interaction' with women.
What you, as a woman, SHOULD be more worried about is the ubiquitous misandry of advertisements for household cleaning products (and the sort of 'female-friendly' tv shows that they 'sponsor').
EVERY ad for these products portrays men as useless creatures who make messes, and cannot clean up after themselves.
EVERY ad for these products shows women - even young girls - ridiculing men, and cleaning up after them 'because they are incapable of doing so themselves'.
WHY is this a Bad Thing? Because it programmes *all* the young children who are exposed to these ads - from the pre-school age at which their minds are at their most impressionable - with the following memes:
Boys - in our culture, your role in Life® is now - and it also always will be once you've grown up - to make messes.
No need to worry about that, as Women will always be around to clean up after you.
Women will also, invariably, ridicule you, no matter what you do. So why should you treat them as anything other than the Enemy?
Girls - in our culture, your role in Life® is to make the Perfect home. You have to have the Perfect Job, the Perfect Figure, feed your Perfect family, and Clean Up after them. Or you are a failure.
Men are idiots to be ridiculed for the amusement of your friends.
Does ANYONE out there think that these memes are going to have a POSITIVE effect on gender relationships or society?

there is another movie called 'jesus christ vampire hunter' that has to do with lesbian vampires.
i'm not a lesbian, but i'm a hellenic pantheist (my 'religion' is the 12 gods of olympus) and i see how in movies the myths and such are exploited and falsely displayed. If i let movies get to me, then i would spend too much time whining and nagging and eventually i would probably become edgy and take offense and loose my sense of humor.
Don't forget that there are many many many movie stereotypes.
the italians are in the mafia
the greeks are sexual perverts
the japanese take pictures all the time and have gadgets or can kick *** and talk by squeezing their eyes and bowing all the time
the mexicans sleep all the time or talk like they are high
the swedish have sex for fun
the brits are gay with bad teeth
the french smell
and the list goes on.
just laugh at it.

I find it offensive, although I'm not lesbian. They shouldn't have been allowed to make something that would offend people.
