Can you use kiln dried salt in a water softener?

Update:

Every place I search on the internet says it is fine, and in some cases safer because it will break down rust that forms in the system itself. So is it okay to use or not?

it might have to much dirt in it and could clog your water softener

  • use the salt either recommended to you by your installer or specified for the model of softener you have. better salt is better cut and more pure, so it will last longer and will not clog the bottom of your tank. if you buy a cheap brand than you will have to periodically empty and clean out your tank, which is not easy.
