Have you ever had a physical outlet for your anger?

I was listening to the radio this morning and a woman who was abandoned by her husband set up a place where people could write things on plates & then smash them.

I used to do this by splitting wood back when I had a fireplace. There's nothing like hitting a wedge into a piece of wood with a sledgehammer!

When I was younger; racquetball was one of my best outlets for anger. I'd go to the court on my own and smash the ball around until I was exhausted. It felt sooooo good. I can still close my eyes and visualize smacking the ball; and feel my stress and anger ebb away. Swinging a softball bat, or throwing a ball worked. I even tried a punching bag a couple of times.

Now that my body has aged a bit; a good power walk, scrubbing something (scrubbing my car, a floor, my bathtub, etc), yard work, or even tossing a frisbee works great when I need to blow off steam.

I love the idea of tossing dishes; and your splitting wood or using a sledgehammer are terrific ideas.

One of my all time favorites is to take a drink and then smash my glass into a fire place, mostly fiction, but I have done this once.

    Outlets For Anger

My anger I have always expressed verbally. As I age, I have learned to let a lot of those, 'little things,' go. I'm not there yet, but I'm better than I use to be. Sometimes though while not expressing things verbally, I will keep them inside, and it just churns. My husband is a very good listener, and if I am upset, it doesn't matter what he is doing, he will take the time to talk with me, and try to help me see reason and deal with the anger in a positive way.

I wish it was easier for me to let my hurt or anger out. I have a tendency to not like arguing, so I hold it in, and I know that doesn't help my health problems. There are days that a good walk will help when we have a sunny day. I do not get angry very often, thank goodness. I think in the last 2 or 3 years I have only exploded once. Beware of the volcano! Someone hurt a family member and had to deal with grandma! I am basically a happy person.

I'm a runner (at least until I hurt my ankle) and a good, hard run will make so many things better. I'd rather be exhausted from a run instead of having all that anger and adrenaline hanging around in my body. A run seems to work it out of my system.

Yes, I still do one of them! Check out my yard, almost anytime.

When I was married and had teenagers at home I mowed the yard a lot, it could be the dead of winter, but there were leaves to mulch by mowing or I could see grass growing somewhere. I had the best mowed yard in the neighborhood.

When I was going through a divorce I was told to use a tennis racket on a pillow and scream, yell or just hit away. It helped, too.

I swear and carry on when strangers push in line.

I've been in two fights this year because I can't control my temper.

I never hit people unless hit first. However, I don't let anyone get the better of me. I just yell really loud in busy places, like the station.

I'm having problems tolerating the unfairness and crime in society. Oneday, I might end up getting killed for fighting for justice.

It's ironic that I end up as the criminal in the end.

Yep, I sure have. I'd get irritated about one thing or another and tear through my housework while I was thinking through my issues. Geeze, you could eat off my floors after one of those days.

Apparently, I don't have all that many anger issues anymore. I've got dust and clutter to prove it.

I clean the floors or bathroom. My Mom taught me when I needed to release anger to hit my bed several times. It does help and make a difference and no one gets hurt.

I've used a blow up punch a ball or just gone to the track and run a mile or two.
