Are these cuts truly what Liberals want?
In liberal/ democratic dominated washington state , the legislature now proposes the following cuts in the state budget:
1. K-12 Education : 1 billion dollars
2. Higher Education: 513 Million
total of 1.5 billion dollars cut by the "party of education"
3. 786 million dollars cut from medical care from seniors and the poor.
wow, so helping the poor and elderly not priority anymore for the "party of the people".
so liberals please do explain why your party at least in the state of washington seems more like republicans?
Source : Wa. Gov.
ok well the govt gives you a billion dollars and you cut a billion sounds like zero too me.
oh healthy , WA what intials of a state do those stand for.
and straight up anyone wanna tell me as a liberal how they think cuts in education and health care IN ANY WAY represents thier values , i really do want to hear it.
oh and so were all clear on my political views , i think both democrats and republicans suck.
westhill - I belive in your statement. but remember democrats crucified thier opponets for not sticking to thier values.
a little ironic to see that party turncoat its own so quickly huh?

State have a legal requirement to balance their budgets - that means if they don't have enough money coming in, they have to make cuts. It's like when you're laid off. You might like steak, but at some point, you have to cut your spending to the bone, so you eat cheap burger instead.

Cutting those programs is not liberal, but Washington State must comply with its own laws:

THE PROBLEM: Maintaining the Washington Legislature's best-laid plans would cost about $9 billion more than the state expects to collect in taxes through mid-2011. Voters have given the Legislature a short leash on tax increases, so spending cuts and one-time money are about all that's left to balance the budget.
THE SOLUTION: Majority Senate Democrats' $35 billion budget for 2009-2011 cuts about $4.5 billion in previously expected government spending. The budget also relies on some $3 billion in federal dough, $750 million from raiding off-budget accounts, and about $400 million in lowered pension costs.

It doesn't surprise me. Democratic voters have no memory or research skill swhen it comes to candidates for their party. The WA legislature is just counting on that when it comes election time, they will spin it as "we saved 2 Billion dollars with necessary cuts" without having to go into what they cut, and thier constituents will lap it up.

I love how liberals are criticized for out of control spending, and when they cut they are called turncoats. Just admit it, you are on the right wing and no matter what the left does you are going to criticize them.

It seems the cuts are not cuts in current cost of programs, but reductions in planned increases.

Libs are a strange type.As long as they say they are a party of the people they are ok.They are led by their feelings rather than logic

well, since republicans are against education, health care and assistance to the poor, you should be really happy right now. I mean, you sure were ecstatic when Bush cut funding to these programs.

They just passed a stimulus bill that increased their funding.
and when you said the "state" budget.......which state are you referring to?
