How expensive is the Furminator deshedding tool?

Have you tried it, does it work well?

This is the best de-shedding tool I have ever used on my cat and dog.

They come in different sizes and can cost $40. Get it on ebay like I did and save yourself some money.

I have done a lot of deshedding treatments in the grooming section of the kennel I work at. Of all the combs and brushes we use, I would personally not get a Furminator tool. While it does remove a decent amount of loose fur, it also tends to shred the ends of the coat. See, in between the teeth of the tool are blades and on some dogs it ruins their coat. Cats tend to have softer coats than dogs so I would be even more caucious. From what I have seen the furminator tool can also cost between thirty to sixty dollars depending where you buy and what size.

The Furminator solution for bathing seems to work quite well but you have to be careful because we have found some dogs to be allergic to whatever is in it. We don't normally bath cats so I couldn't tell you how they might react. Giving your cat a good bath before brushing him would help loosen up more fur.

I suggest buying a variety of brushes for your cat. Depending on what type of fur it is shedding you will need a different brush. Cats that have shed top coat, the wire hairs, tend to work best with tools such as a shedding blade. If they are shedding undercoat, the fluffy stuff, one of the best tools you can use includes a rake comb or a slicker brush.

More often than not we work with dogs having shedding problems. What we do at the kennel is brush out the dog first and get as much as we can out. We then bath the dog and while it is wet use a strong blowdrying on cool to blow out more coat. Then we let the dog dry and once it is dry we brush him again. Be careful not to brush for long periods of time as it can irritate their skin and probably your cat. I hope this helps.

The most difficult knots and matting quickly and easily went away. I remembered using the cheap brush we got at the store, which looked a bit like the FURminator, and how long it took to get a nasty knot out. Plus, the Labradoodle hated it, and bit at the sore spots where it had hurt him. This brand was so much different! Not sure what deshedding tool you are referring to. if you are talking about a dematting tool, that is for a completely different purpose. If you are talking about the Furminator, it is an excellent tool that removes dead undercoat from the dog without harming the outer coat. This tool is patented and no one else can use their design-they can only make poor copies.

Prices range from 20 to 40 dollars depending on which one you get. I think if you order a furminator brush online you also get a free thing of furminator shampoo. I've heard it works very well, yes. =)

Sorry Angela, I agree with everyone but you. I have had a furminator for about a year I guess and it works great, hasn't caused any damage using it on all 3 of the babies. it's rather pricey that's true, but is definitely worth the money.

Never used the Furminator, but I LOVE the Zoom-Groom! It is a lot less expensive too! They are like 7 bucks!

I LOVE MY Furminator!!!! I bought the cat version on Amazon for like $18. That's half of what they charge in the pet stores.

I brush my Russian blue mix every other day with it. I usually get a small cotton ball-size amount of fur off her when she's shedding (like right now). My husband has allergies and this is our God-send. His eyes water and itch around other cats, but not ours!

It is great! I use it on my dog and cat. It is worth every penny. You might be able to find it cheaper on ebay but make sure it is not a look a like. I paid about $50.00. I got the larger size because friends told me the cat size one does not work well on long thick coats so get a size larger. I have recommended it to several friends and they all thanked me after trying it! Just do not over use it. It thins the coat fast.
