My mom fell the other day, and now has an extremely BLACK bruise.. Is it dangerous?
She fell down an icy set of stairs the other day, and now her whole hip and left buttocks is black (literally). It's about the size of a pie plate, and it looks very angry. is there something that can come of it? Should she go to the hospital or will they just tell her it's a bruise and send her home?

It is very possible that she broke her hip or something. If you're worried about it I'd certainly take her to get an X Ray. It's better to be safe than sorry!

Hi there,
Is she moving about the house, taking care of her own daily chores ? If the answer is "yes", maybe it is only a superficial injury and will be alright in 10 days or so...
If the appearance is as bad as what you describe, and if she is limted and confined to her bed, with limited activity, maybe it is better to get the family doctor across, at the earliest.
Or if she can accompany you upto the hospital, let her come with you to the ER so that she can undergo the investigations like x-rays , to rule out any fractures...
