So, he wants me to cook for him... Ideas?

So I am not able to get anything resembling a negative opinion from my fiance too often, he's really not into giving constructive (or any) criticism most of the time. The other night, though, I was able to get him to cop to being slightly disappointed that I don't cook for him. He clarified that he doesn't at all expect it, and he doesn't even wish for me to cook for him all the time ("maybe on weekends", he suggested), and he understands that I'm busy with school and all, so it's OK if I don't, and blah, blah, blah... but anyway, I'm thrilled to get an actual opinion out of him, and wouldn't mind cooking on occasion, but I'm a clueless dolt in the kitchen. I finally mastered macaroni and cheese. What can I make that's easy, guy-friendly, and not obvious "heath-food" but not bad for you either?

    Try this, its really good

    · 1/4 cup paprika

    · 1 tablespoon packed dark brown sugar

    · 1 tablespoon white sugar

    · 2 teaspoons salt

    · 1 teaspoon ground black pepper

    · 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste

    · 1 teaspoon dry mustard

    · 1 teaspoon garlic powder

    · 1 teaspoon onion powder

Rub it onto a chicken and make sure the cavity get some too.

Leave it in the fridge for at least an hour, longer even better(esp overnight)

Slow roast it at 150 deg C for 1 and 1/2 hr. Just put some cut potatoes on the same baking pan.

No need to add anything else eg oil.

Serve that with some peas or mixed veg.

Just start of with a traditional SPAGHETTI (if your feeling creative: add meatballs).

It's definately a guy-dish, easy, healthy, and the sides you serve with it are typically enjoyable and easy also. SIDES: Breadsticks, garlic bread, salad, wine.

    simply put:

    1 lb. hamburger

    1 lb. spaghetti

1 jar of prego or try to do homemade sauce if you want!

Boil your spaghetti until al dente (throw a noodle on your cupboard, if it sticks it's done!) Drizzle olive oil over done drained noodles.

In a separate skillet style pan brown your hamburger with cut up onion. When browned, drain off fat. Now either start with like a prego from the jar or try the easy home-made spaghetti sauce recipe below...and add it to your hamburger

    other yummy adds:

*) minced garlic (add towards the end when your meat is done browning, burnt garlic is not good in spaghetti or much of anything)

    *) mushrooms

    *) sausage

*) chopped onion is a must to add into your hamburger while browning it!

*TOP WITH PARMESAN!!! THIS IS A MUST :)

Get a nice loaf of bread, drizzle it with olive oil and throw in the oven. Bake for about 5-10 min then cut of the end of a garlic clove and rub garlic onto toasted bread for a yummy rich flavor

Source(s): My brain...I do this all the time! 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 large Spanish onion, finely chopped 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped 2 (28-ounce) cans plum tomatoes and their juice, pureed in a blender 1 bay leaf 1 small bunch parsley Pinch red pepper flakes Salt and freshly ground pepper 6 basil leaves, chiffonade For the Tomato Sauce: Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan. Add onions and garlic and cook until soft. Add pureed tomatoes and juice, bay leaf and parsley, pepper flakes and salt and pepper and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, add meatballs and let simmer for 30-40 minutes, until the sauce has thickened. Remove the bay leaf and parsley, add the basil and serve.

    I'm not sure what type of food you both like, but this is REALLy delicious and very easy to make;

    Fettuccini Carbonara

    5 teaspoons olive oil

    4 shallots, diced

1 large onion, cut into thin strips

1 pound bacon, cut into strips

    1 clove garlic, chopped

1 (16 ounce) package fettuccini pasta

    3 egg yolks

    1 cup heavy cream

    3/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese

    salt and pepper to taste

    Serves 6.

Heat olive oil in a large heavy saucepan over medium heat. Saute shallots until softened. Stir in onion and bacon, and cook until bacon is evenly browned. Stir in garlic when bacon is about half done. Remove from heat.

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente. Drain pasta, then return it to the pot.

In a medium bowl, whisk together egg yolks, cream, and shredded Parmesan. Pour the bacon mixture over the pasta, then stir in the cream mixture. Season with salt and pepper.

How wonderful that you have such an understanding guy and good for you that you want to learn how to cook. I always recommend you start with your favorite foods and/or his. Does he like steak, pork chops or chicken? Of those what do you also like to eat and start there. Mastering a cooking technique is also very helpful.

My suggestion is to make roast chicken, baked potatoes and a salad. You can buy a salad mix at the store, potatoes are easy to bake and they can bake along with the chicken. Here is my recipe:

    Herb Roasted Chicken Breast

Start with large bone-in chicken breast, about 16 - 24 oz each. This recipe is a great alternative when you only want the white meat!

    2 - 16 to 24 oz bone-in chicken breast

    2 tablespoons butter, room temperature

    1 teaspoon oregano

1 teaspoon Mrs. Dash garlic & Herb Seasoning

    1/2 teaspoon pepper

    1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

    Olive Oil

    # Preheat oven 425 degrees. Remove any excess fat from chicken, set aside.

    # Mix butter with oregano, Mrs. Dash, Pepper & Salt. Gently lift skin and add 1/4 butter mixture, spread evenly under skin, use another 1/3 of the mixture to coat underside and tender side of chicken breast. Repeat with second breast.

    # Place chicken in glass baking dish, lightly coat with olive oil. Place in oven cook uncovered 20 minutes.

    # Lower oven temperature to 350 degrees, cook 15 minutes. Remove from oven, tent with foil, rest 10 minutes before cutting to allow juices to re-distribute. The meat will continue to cook.

To make the baked potatoes - idaho baking potatoes, rinse and poke with a knife in 5 places around the potato, place in oven with the chicken, they will be done at the same time.

I encourage you to look around my website. The recipes are easy and for the most part very healthy. You will find grilling recipes like shrimp, chicken and great burgers. You will find wonderful salads and sides, they are really easy. Like I said, find a few items----learn them and you may find it is really fun to cook. It my creative outlet, especially on weekends. Good luck.

he does want you to cook for him all the time but he's a nice guy and doesn't want you to feel that your relationship is bound to your carrying out his wishes. he seems easy going so i doubt anything you make will disappoint him. start by making spaghetti and meat sauce. it's really easy and filling. (honesty deserves a thumbs down)

sounds like this guy is hard to please. either that or he doesn't know what he wants. try cooking with an italian flare. if your guy isnt a vegan or a vegitarian try a chicken parm. on pasta with meat suace. and a side of hot bread. for desert, try tarimusu with a Kaluah cream base and espresso.

good luck! i hope this helped!
