What does it say about anti-gay marriage supporters when one of their biggest proponents is . . . .?
A faux blonde, bikini-clad contestant in a Miss USA beauty pageant?
Seriously, if I supported anti-gay rights I'd be embarrassed. As if I'm not already embarrassed by Perez Hilton over making such a hissy fit over it. This fight was ugly, now it's just getting stupid.
Your thoughts?
No Chance -- Funny you should talk. Since we're in the same boat together, is there a plank to jump off of, per chance?? I'd rather take my chances with the godless sharks than brave the bitterness of your company.
Searcher -- Be honest. You'd take Miss USA because she's hot and hetero. ;P

I've been in the US for two years now, and I truly like it here. But this is yet another example of the one thing I hate the most about the USA: the ability to bring down important topics to hollow soundbites, usually spoken by crazy, stupid people.
Seriously, who in the normal world cares about Rush Limbaugh's opinions, some crazy Miss California's opinions, Perez Hilton's opinions, Nancy Grace's opinions, etc, etc??
It's not even news worthy. It's ridiculous.

Anglican leaders from around the world reiterated their opposition to the "victimisation or diminishment" of gays and lesbians, saying demonising and persecuting them was "totally against Christian charity and basic principles of pastoral care". "We say that no one should have to live in fear because of the bigotry of others." The mormons poured millions into forcing through prop 8 in CA: to ban gay marriage. In August 2010 the court held that to be unconstitutional. On 15 June 2011 the San Francisco court upheld that decision because it violates the constitutional rights of citizens. It is now awaiting the Supreme Court verdict which is expected to uphold the early court decision. If that happens then gay marriage will become legal everywhere and that will be marriage and not civil partnership! The loving god works in mysterious ways.

That they will take support (and exaggerate and inflate it) from anyone who breathes in their direction. As a Californian, I'm very embarrassed that our Miss America contestant is an anti-gay bigot. She seems to feel that her anti-gay speech is sacrosanct and no one should dare criticize it. She demands freedom of speech and religious liberty and condemns the other side for wanting the same things. As with all radical anti-gay activists, they demand the special right to attack and harm gay people and be immune to criticism for doing so.

Speaking as an Englishman, I'm completely dumbfounded at the fuss being made over this. As she said, that's what she was brought up to believe. So what: she's ignorant, like so many other people. She's not the first beauty contest contestant to be talking rubbish.

Yeah seriously who gives a flying crap about what some beauty pageant air head thinks about any given subject. A better question would be why was she even asked it in the first place.

Seriously, why would anyone give a rat's pattottie what a bleached blond Malibu Barbie thinks about anything anyway....
This is getting ridiculous, time the media switched to more important issues.

As I said in response to another question, she's a barbie doll with Rush's brain. But that didn't cost her points. I think what hurt her were two words: "my country". She quickly corrected herself but it came across like she thought that she spoke for all Americans when she clearly doesn't. That could have cost her the title if she and the winner were close in points.

and to at least add something to your question. didn't watch it, don't care about it, but i am all for gay marriage. who cares what 2 adults do in their personal sexual lives

The anti-same sex marriage crowd, like the conservatives in general, are little more than cartoonish at this point. To fix the problem, they'd have to change, and that's not what conservatives do.
