My Dog Ate Chicken Bones?

Chicken and Poultry bones are dangerous to dogs because of the danger of them sticking in them...throats usually. But almost ALL the dogs I have had in my life, or known of have stolen them some time or another with no adverse problem. JUST WATCH for mainly coughing or hacking to indicate they MIGHT have a problem. The chance is there, but it isn't a high one. Dogs CAN have beef or pork bones with no problem, the bone is usually thicker and less likely to cause problems. If you are worried about sickness due to the AGE of the bones and chicken "remains" this is also a CHANCE but not likely. Dogs usually eat such things with little or no side affect, or if they do have a little sickness, it passes easily. If aged meat has been open TOO long and could have gained sunlight and elements of weather, such as bugs and bacteria there is a chance of a type of poisoning but it would not be likely in this circumstance. Usually this happens when they ingest deer or other wild game left open in the woods for ages after they are killed (irresponsible hunters!) But even then, it isn't likely that the animal gets sick. It happened to ONE of my many dogs in my lifetime. You will see signs of this with VERY increased thirst and a sort of "shaking" all over the body. The dogs "gait" may not be correct and he or she may stumble a little.

I think you are probably OKAY...I do not know the truth of this, but my grandmother always kept canned milk and gave it to our sick animals. For some reason, it appeared to work for what she called "sour stomach." When I worry about something my pets ate, I STILL use this method and use regular milk if the other isn't available. With bones, if they are stuck deep into the throat or other area, MILK MIGHT help to loosen them...not really sure, but it has worked for somethings. Don't know the "theory" behind it though.

Bunny7....don't hesitate to take to the VET if symptoms are there that appear to be bad, getting worse, or continuing and that are unnatural. It is better to be safe, than sorry!

Keep an eye on both dogs. Chicken bones can splinter and cause intestinal problems. In the future, keep the dogs away from the kitchen trash.

if ur dogs are ok in a couple days the bones didnt do any damage but still go to ur local vet just to be sure they didnt do any serious damage i have 3 dogs and they get into our trash all the time i reccomend putting it up high where they cant get it my dogs have gotten to chicken bones before and i freaked out but they were fine but i seriously hope your dogs are ok

Keep an eye on them both to see whether they develop anything. Chicken bones can splinter and damage the dogs digestive system.

Cooked chicken bones are not good, they're brittle & can splinter.

Watch them both tonight and the next few days If they have any vomiting, retching without bringing anything up, bloody stool--then they'll need to see your vet. Good luck, I hope it works out okay.

Chicken bones have slivers and should NEVER,EVER be given to a dog. They can harm the digestive system and kill him.

If you see ant pain or discomfort get it to a vet PRONTO!!

no my dog eates bones all the time. as long as they didnt swallow it whole!
