Upset Alert: Ducks upsetting Wings, Canes upsetting Bruins?

Can any of you see this happening, for my Playoff bracket I chose the Canes upsetting the Bruins with all the experience they have in being in the playoffs. The Wings, Ducks match up may seem far fetched but do any of you think its possible. I certainly do the Ducks seem to me as the one team you don't want to face in the playoffs as a lower seed. I chose the Red Wings here but Im rooting for the Ducks and I can see a serious upset on the way for the Wings.

    Hi

As far as I am concerned Ducks or Canes winning is not an upset. Both are strong teams, both have CUP experience. To me this round there is no upsets. Throw the rankings out the window they don't matter. Boston may actually be an underdog to may people.. Canes are a very good team, Boston will come into Game one at home.. They never got tested in the first round, Canes beat the leagues best goalie... As far as Ducks go recent history favors them, they are riding high after beating a rival team, and again Wings will be cold in Game one.

    Thank You

Canes may have the experiance edge, but the Bruins have the offensive edge, the defensive edge, the specai lteams edge and the Goalie Edge. Bruins in 4 maybe 5 if the Canes get lucky.

ANd the Canes didn't just beat the best goalie in the NHL, because that is Tim Thomas, atleast this year, best GAA and Best Save %.

I don't see an upset alert in either of the series. The ducks have no chance of beating Detroit, they just have too much offense and the Ducks will not be able to handle them. And The Canes are not going to beat the Bruins, with their great defense and pretty good offense they will win. I have Detroit in 6 And Bruins in 6.

I do see the Ducks possibly taking the series from Detroit. Detroit is aging. They have subpar goaltending. Anaheim is playing team hockey, playing well and playing great defensively.

The Bruins "upset," is a little harder to see. The Bruins so handily beat Montreal in the first round. They scored boatloads on the "savior" of the franchise. The Defense looked olid. And Ference could like be back for the series. I know anything is possible in Hockey, but Carolina over Boston doesn't seem likely. Boston has tons of Playoff experience too, if you didnt know.

EDIT: Boozer- I wasn't suggesting Detroit's too old to win, I was bringing in the fact that young fresh legs and athletic ability is what could possibly win this series for anaheim. Detroit is a very good team, they play smart, but their biggest weakness is their age and their goaltending

For your "upsets", i can see both of them happening. The Ducks and Canes are both very good teams with good experience. Both have good talent and have some momentum going into round 2. However, they are both playing arguably the two best teams in the league. It will be tough for either team to pull off an upset.

For these two series, i say the Red Wings will win in 6...and i will agree and say that the Canes will upset in 7 games.

I think a Ducks series victory is more likely than a Canes one. I predicted that both would win their round 1's, but the Ducks did it so much easier against a stronger team.

O Reagan- The age old theory that "Detroit is too old" to win has been thrown out the window already, that is not the case anymore. I can see both upsets happening, but I don't think they will. Hiller needs to keep performing great, and I think that Holmstrom and Franzen will give Hiller a hell of a harder time than anyone on SJ did. Holmstrom is the BEST goalie screener in the league, followed only by maybe Ryan Smyth. Hiller will have many problems, especially on the PK.

I don't know about the Canes beating the Bruins. I think the Bruins ill get there in 6. Mind you I said that about the devils too, and the canes proved me rong then, and they could prove me wrong now. I think the Ducks have a good chance of upsetting Detroit. Hiller needs to play like a stud again. I think we have the defensive corps in the league, but they need to stay healthy. The top line needs to fire again, but we got to get scoring out of the other lines too, like Selanne, Ebbett, etc. Avoiding a parade to the penalty box, and limiting Detroit's power-play goals is also a key. Also I think we need to shoot more. we got outshot in every game against the Sharks, and if we pepper Osgood with shots, its only a matter of time before he lets them in.

  • I picked Anaheim. I hate that matchup for Detroit. Anaheim is back to being that big physical team that steamrolled everyone a couple years back, and Hiller looked terrific against SJ.

I picked Boston to beat Carolina, but Boston having this ridiculously long layoff cannot help. A few days...great, heal the bumps and bruises, but over a week (I worry about Tim Thomas more than anything...this is unchartered territory). I think Boston will win, but it will be a very tough series.

I don't think either situation will happen, but I think the Canes have a better chance of beating Boston thank the duck beating the wings.
