I can't believe this story made the news. In my home town the Christian school (which was Baptist) also had the same policy, and I knew some kids who got suspended for attending a public school prom. I knew kids who got suspended for going to a Marilyn Manson concert.
Never made the news though.
Christian schools are private, they operate under the notion of it being a privilege, not a right, to attend their schools.
Why is this news?

Unfortunately, his parents sent him there, knowing their attitude, and he signed the agreement to abide by their attitude. When you decide to play the game by their rules, then you can't complain when they hold you to those rules.
I went to a Fundie Xian school just like that...They had no proms, suspensions if you went to another schools prom, boys and girls no closer than 6 inches, suspension or expulsion for violations of school rules anywhere and/or anytime if caught by school employees (I/E smoking on the porch of your house 20 miles from school and a janitor drives by and see's you and reports you).
They are that bad, but I knew the rules when I went there, and they just never caught me doing anything. I did enjoy wearing my school shirt (with name and school emblem proudly displayed) to various bars, rock clubs and strip joints, and perfoming on stage with the rock band I was in after having graduated from school.
Revenge is sweet.

honestly, its just a stupid dance.
nothing but an excuse for horny teens to rub up on each other, then go over to someone's house, get sloppy drunk off wine coolers and smirnoff ices and try to have ridiculously bad, awkward sex.
but, it's still a major point in many kid's lives...i don't think prom is that big of a deal, let kids be kids.

Gosh, the school seems to have total authority over him in this case.
Honestly speaking, most educational institutions are works of dictatorship these days. It takes the life outta you just to get inside the more prestigious ones, yet its relatively easy to get kicked out.
The fact is, the real authority over the guy should rest on his parents. They should be the ones who get to decide whether that guy can go or not.
But, as I said before, schools are hot-beds of dictatorship, so you can't help it.

Personally, no, I do not think it is okay.
But they are acting well within their rights. They even had him sign a voluntary agreement on the subject when he first enrolled in the school.

I think that if they try to keep him from graduating, they are going to have a Sh*t-storm of legal problems, not to mention the ACLU showing up on their doorstep.
Problem: a minor can't sign legally binding contract
Even if they try it, the legal bills will be enough to bankrupt them.

"Frost, a senior at Heritage Christian School in northwest Ohio, agreed to the school's rules when he signed a statement of cooperation at the beginning of the year..."
Based on this, I certainly think it's okay. These are the rules to which he agreed.

That is not fair at all. He shouldn't get suspended. Besides, they play "Hip-Hop" music, not rock, so no rebellion.

i don,t agree with it myself. i love rock music....
but the guy did sign papers agreeing to the schools terms when he enrolled.
