My cat has just given birth. How long untill I can move her "nest"?

My cat has just given birth under the stairs and it's really cluttered. That's why she went there but I would prefer it if she was in my bedroom. I have managed to (gently) put her in the bed I made out of a large cardboard box and a blanket but It's hard to get to her. I would prefer for her to be where I can see her and see that she and the kittens are alright. So, how long should I wait until I move the box, with them all in, upstairs?

Also, how long do I have to wait until I feed the cats. They're happily drink breast mile at the moment.

Thanks in advance

You can move her and the kittens any time, but unless you plan to keep your bedroom door closed, she'll likely move them back. Even within the confinements of your room, she may find a place she prefers over the box.

Kittens can be offered canned or soaked kitten food at around 4 weeks. They should stay with Mom for at least 10 weeks, with 12 being ideal.

When the time comes to find them homes, be sure that you obtain a verbal vet reference, (the potential adopter will need to give their vet permission to speak to you,) and charge more than whatever live food goes for in your area.

Then, please use the "adoption fee" money to spay your cat. Millions of cats and kittens are euthanized every year because they continue to be born into a world of too few homes.

The kittens will drink milk for a few weeks dont try and put them on solids yet. Move them upstairs in a couple of days but keep the blanket /bedding that they are on there until the kittens are a few weeks old. It might end up smelling a bit but the mother wont like u moving or handling the kittens for a couple of weeks at least. Make sure that they are warm and not disturbed by too much light.

I would wait a day or two. She might get mixed up and think one or more of her kittens have been left behind. Let her acclimate herself to how many kittens she has and that she knows she's taking care of them. Clean out the clutter as best you can so that you can check on them. And of course, make sure she can get to her food and water. When you move them, move them all at once - mother and kittens together.

You can try feeding the kittens additional food at 3 or 4 weeks. They should nurse at least until 8 weeks.

There is really no need to bother the kittens at this time. The momma cat feels safe where she is as that is why she had her kittens there. If you bother them to early on the mother may reject them. I would leave them be for at least a couple of weeks. The momma cat is libel to move them on her own before then anyways.

As far as feeding them goes they will nurse on the momma cat for about 8 weeks. At about 4 weeks you can start offering them wet and dry food as well as water. The momma cat will do the weaning when she is ready.

    Hello x

Aww congratulations on the litter or kittens, i would leave it a couple of days then it should be fine for you to move them to the bedroom. You start to feed the cats on the kitten food at roughly 6 weeks old.

Good Luck with the kittens :)

Don't move them -- let mama do that if she is so inclined. Odds are close to nil she will settle in a spot that YOU choose. Mamas like to keep their newborns in the dark (to protect their eyes) and out of the prying eyes and hands of predators and humans, and if you move them, she will find another spot to move them. Move them too much, and she will begin to ignore them or get really pissed at you.

As for feeding them, you can start with watered down wet food at about 3-4 weeks, but let mama nurse as long as she can, up to about 7-9 weeks until she begins weaning.

Id leave it at least a day or two. You should find that your cat will clean up all the mess in the nest. Just make sure your cat sees you doing it and you stroke her and give her attention whilst you're moving them.

If she is panting for the final 4 days, you ought to take her to the vet to be certain if she will pass the kittens certainly. The gestation era is 9 weeks, ( approx sixty 3 days) so in case you recognize whilst she grew to alter into pregnant you will comprehend whilst they're due. maximum folk do no longer although so the vet pass to is your ultimate option.
