atheist don't you think its kind of absurd that you don't believe in any kind of deity(Gods)?
Even your hero Charles Darwin who proposed the theory of evolution by means of natural selection. believed in a deity and even studied christian theology in college..he even he responded that he had never been an atheist in the sense of denying the existence of a God, and that generally "an Agnostic would be the more correct description of my state of mind.
2 the most powerful people in the world Presidents, CEO's kings scientist emperors celebs.. you name them worship a deity..it doesn't matter what kind: Lucifer, God Amon, Ra .. point is they know they answer to some deity who shows them secrets (i think) we don't know about..
what makes you so sure as an atheist there are absolutely no deity..
no my point is they are not imaginary... we just don't know.. or you cannot be 100%sure they don't exist..

What makes you think Darwin is anybody's hero? That's the most absurd statement here!
What makes you so sure of your God?
- Anonymous1 decade ago
Darwin is not my hero.
The absurd thing is to believe in any kind of deity. It's totally illogical and somewhat crazy to believe in pie in the sky.
Because powerful people believe in a deity doesn't make them right. They are just as wrong as all of the other believers. In my book it makes them all liars or all very unintelligent people. Especially in the USA, if a president didn't believe in god and was said that he was a Christian, he wouldn't last 10 minutes.
Do you know which deity they believe in?
They have about 2850 to choose from, and they are all in the same basket as Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny:

Which one is god of the day? Go see for yourself!
Atheist are 100% sure that gods don't exist. Are you 100% sure that they exist? Go figure.

This is one of the worst arguments I've heard for some time.
1 - Darwin was an agnostic - not a Christian - or part of any religion for that matter, what makes you think we should believe the Christian version of God? Anyway, appeal to authority is a logical fallacy.
2. Again, appeal to authority is a logical fallacy. Besides, who cares about presidents? Where were you during the Bush administration?
And by the way, as a Christian, you are remarkably similar to atheists. Like us, you reject thousands of other Gods. Atheists simply don't make an exception for the last god in the equation.
Edit: You're right, we can't 100% know. But I don't know God doesn't exist only to the extent that I know Leprechauns don't exist.

I don't determine what I believe about the supernatural by what others believe. It is what makes sense to me. What business is of yours anyway? You are too stupid to know that God, Lucifer, Amon Ra are make believe and you think because some deluded presidents, CEO's (like I could give a rats behind), kings, emperors or celebs worship them then I should? What a stupid reason to believe anything. So, what secrets has your deity shown you lately? LOL...

Yet another slanted claim!! There is no evidence that Darwin was ever a christian but of course in common with all scholars of his time he had some schooling in it!!
In 1881 the evangelist Lady Elizabeth Hope falsely claimed that Darwin was reading the bible and had turned christian on his deathbed!!! A claim that was demonstrably false since he lived for six months after she made her false claim.
In Keynes book 'Annie's Box' it states that Emma his wife and Darwin were so devastated by their daughters death that it led to Darwin's total renunciation of Christianity!!
Why do christians with such weak faith always seem to try to twist the truth or ignore it?!!
Both the Catholic church and church of England have apologized to Darwin!! Indeed the Pope, Catholic Church, Church of England and mainstream churches all accept evolution and the big bang!!
Lord Carey the former Archbishop of Canterbury put it rather well – “Creationism is the fruit of a fundamentalist approach to scripture, ignoring scholarship and critical learning, and confusing different understandings of truth”!!
Nice that christians and atheists can agree and laugh together even if it is at your expense!!

What makes you sure that there is?
Go ahead, give me proof that a god exists. And documents don't count because they were written by men. Show me that a god exists.
Just because a president or mayor or scientist or even Stephen King worshipped a deity that would automatically make it true?
Just sounds like cult worship to me.
If you're not 100% certain, then you really can't say "no my point is they are not imaginary... we just don't know". If you're claiming that your point is to say that deities are not imaginary, yet in the next sentence you say you don't know, then you've just contradicted yourself. So which is it? Do you believe that god(s) exists or do you not know?

Hi; you possibly was answering someone else' question. I've never been neither one. I have known Jesus Christ since I was 7 yrs old. As far as Darwin is concerned; he tried to make us believe we were born from the line of apes. Well, my Bible states: God made the animals, the birds, the creeping things, the mammals and man, then female; did HE make them. HE did this all within 6 days and rested on the 7th day, HIS Sabbath. GOD has also given those 'over' us, authority to rule in their positions; ie: presidents, ceo's, kings, etc...they did not own it, and many were born into it; but the very original 'one' was the beginning ONE. That was GOD, Jesus Christ and The Holy Spirit. Darwin was wrong. He was seeking GOD and didn't know it, at the time. He finally admitted; he was wrong before he died. King Solomon was the wealthiest man alive in his time and the fact that nobody would ever be, again; liken to him. He began the population / generations, we now have through centuries of time. He wrote the Book of Ecclesiactics; in the last chapter, it speaks of him seeing everything as "vanity of vanities" and that he "should have Prayed more"....He had the Temple in Jerusalem built, and his own home just as gorgeous. And yet, he knew GOD was all in all. Amen.
Source(s): The Holy Bible, Book of Genesis; Book of Ecclesiactics. Read it for yourself. Get a Bible from your parents if you have none, or your public Library...or go to any Church, they will give you one, FREE. Tell them I sent you. OK? - Diane (PFLAG)Lv 71 decade ago
No more absurd than not believing in monsters under the bed, Tinkerbell or anything else for which there is no evidence of existence...
Interesting you mistakenly believe my hero is Charles Darwin... Something else you have gotten wrong...
People of power are not infallible... The complete lack of evidence supporting the existence of any deity makes me very certain....
Your point clearly missed the mark as you have no evidence to back up any deities existence....

Well, have you ever asked yourself why exactly you believe there is a god? I'm not saying I'm agnostic but I certainly enjoy reading both sides of the discussion. Christianity is basically absurd to me.. it is followed by blind people who believe a bible that contradicts itself throughout the text. It's amazing to me how people can be so.. tunnel driven given the fact that they are free people (in most cases..Americans) that are able to believe ANYTHING they want to. I think that most christians are brainwashed by things we call "churches" .. its actually a klan if you ask me. Honestly, given the science we have today.. the stories in the bible not only didnt happen.. but contradict eachother. For ex. God created the world in 7 days. But at the same time the bible also says that 1 day= 1,000 years. But yet christians still teach the young children of our nation that God created the world in a week. Pure insanity if you ask me!
-Agnostics are not only usually confused on what they believe.. it takes a while to take the advantage of a free American and research before wasting your time on something that may not even be true.

The random suffering in the world is evidence of the nonexistence of a loving, powerful, informed God. The fact that no God has contacted us in an unambiguous manner is contrary to the nature of God as depicted in most religions and therefore evidence that such a God doesn’t exist. The fact that, so far, all the explanations we’ve found for complicated phenomena have involved the interaction of less complicated phenomena implies that the ultimate explanation for the universe as a whole will likewise involve something less complicated, rather than something more complicated such as God. The fact that the knowledge of the world exhibited by writers of ancient religious texts never exceeds what such people could be expected to know through the science available to them implies they had no additional sources of knowledge with regard to God. The fact that many religious texts, including the Bible, are self contradictory, is evidence that they are not divinely inspired. The evidence that faith doesn’t work as a means of obtaining knowledge about the world is evidence that it doesn’t work as a means of obtaining knowledge about God. The fact that faith leads to multiple conflicting claims about God also supports that conclusion. The fact that prayer doesn’t work as a means of changing anything in the world is evidence that there is no God out there to pray to.

1- Don't you think it's kind of absurd that you believe in God? At your age and in this century?
2- Darwin, great figure of history, not my hero.
3- Powerful people use religion to attract followers. It is always been like this, from the pagan Romans (with the edict of Constantine) to Bush as the latest, sad example.
4- I live only once, I am not basing my life on that 0.000000000000001 of chance that Santa or Shiva might be there somewhere listening and recording simultaneously myself and other millions of deluded bigots murmuring prayers.
