I thought heaven was for good people and hell was for bad people.?

So what does it matter what my faith is? If I'm a total a*shole but a Christian, then what right would I have to go to heaven? And what if I were an atheist who did nothing but good to others, gave to the poor, accepted everyone's faith and did not judge, would I really deserve to burn in hell for eternity? I think thats all a bit dumb. I know this has been asked before, but I haven't read the answers to those.

Thanks guys.

Update:

"Total Tranny Fierceness", thats my question. Why should a good Atheist deserve to go to hell? Why? You don't actually have an answer, do you? You're just repeating the question.

Update 2:

People keep saying "what you don't understand, is that its not about whether your a god person, its whether you believe in God". I do understand that, but I want to know why?! WHY?!

This is one reason that I am an atheist.

I cannot reconcile the fact that if there is a god I will be doomed to hell, despite living a moral life.

You're looking at the issue from man's perspective. God's is very different. He says not one of us is good. We all fall short of His standards. We can never be good enough to get into heaven and we can never correct our lack of goodness. So we must rely on Him. That's where Jesus comes in. The bible says that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. That's the only way you can get into heaven. Yes, there are some real terrible people who call themselves Christian. But the bible also says that when you believe in Jesus, God's own Spirit is set in you. Hard to imagine someone motivated by the Holy Spirit to be that terrible. So the only conclusion is these people aren't really Christians and won't be in heaven without a major change of heart.

i used to tink of dat question once. wat about all de good atheist people in de world. and i came up wit dis conclusion:

    - what seems to be good to us isnt necessarily good to God

    - so yea, somebody dat has a religion- jus cuz dey have a religion doesnt mean they automatically go to heaven. they have to be good (in God's view, because people do not know what good is if dey didnt get God's guidance)

    - so basically thing is, atheists , dey dont bliev in God, so although they might have a conscious and be charitable and sort of have an idea of what a good person does... there are many things dat dey consider good which God considers bad. if dey blieved in God dey wud understand, but because dey dint dey could not tel right from wrong.(although they probably tink dey can)

ALSO, atheists commit the biggest sin possible: denying their own creator. y is dis a sin? welll, think of it. de only reason ppl 2 bad stuf is because deyr stupid and dono wats for de better of dem. dis means dat ppl make sins because dey dont know - so little knowledge creates more sins. therefore if u dont blieve in God, when he has given u all de proof u need to bliev in Him, ur a huge sinner.

basically, in my view, there is no such thing as a good atheist person

It's not about being a good or bad person. It's about believing that Jesus came to earth to die for our sins and that He was raised from the dead, and confessing that He is Lord! If you do these two things, then you will go to heaven. If you do this, you will want to be without sin - thus you will want to stop being an bad person. No one is without sin, even 'good people'. Only through Jesus can we be saved and go to heaven!

it depends if god sees you by ur personalty, not by ur looks......anyone cant change the thoughts of god...

hell isnt necessarily a bad place, its just a place away from God and Christians showed hell as a fiery awful place to represent how awful life without God would be

but if any kind of person woeld be in hell then....

in their lives they made a big mistake....

its just a thing where it teaches you a lesson

God judges the soul. We do not. What makes you think all Christians go to Heaven? There are many who claim to be Christian who don't have a personal relationship with Christ.

    Matt7

21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?'

23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

What you don't seem to get is that we are powerless to save ourselves by our own merit. Good works alone will not save you. This is one of the most basic and central concepts of Christianity. It doesn't matter how "good" of a person you think you are. It is irrelevant. You don't earn heaven through good deeds and being nice to others. That is not to say, however, that we shouldn't be nice to others, quite the contrary. A good Christian should want to do this anyway.

Another thing to remember is that there is no forgiveness without repentance, meaning that you change your mind and you change your conduct. Just because Christ died for your sins does not mean you cannot live your life in any manner you wish and expect to go to heaven. Any sin can be forgiven, but you must repent of your sin. You need to try your best to obey God's commandments and follow the standards that He has set for all of us.

Oh, because you dont believe the same as 'they' do. In their eyes you will still go to hell.

But since neither actually exist you dont have that much too worry about.

People who believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that He died on the cross to save our souls and those who confess their sins and ask Jesus to be Lord of their lives will go to heaven.

If you are a total ***, then you are not a Christian. Faith changes people. God bless.

I know, right? Christianity doesn't necessarily make you a good person, and my sister is an atheist, not an axe murderer.
