Does anyone else find this inappropriate?

Does anyone else find the new Burger King Spongebob commercial a little inappropriate for a kids? I just don't think it is appropriate to show the square butts commercial for a kids meal, when the commercial is aimed at getting kids attention. It bothers me.

Update:

No, I'm not one of those parents that freak out about marketing ads. This one just really bothers me. Sorry if I don't feel that women dressing sexy and waving their butts on tv is appropriate for my 2 year old son and 7 year old step son is appropriate.

I do find it a little inappropriate too. I feel that butts is not what should be getting kids attention especially not that song. My son loves spongebob and dances to that commercial and I never thought much about it until your question.

Oh, I hate that commercial! Any time it comes on I have to change the channel or turn the tv off because I can't even stand to watch it. It is supposed to be aimed more at adults (since it's talking about buying a value meal and getting a kids meal for 99 cents) but it is extremely inappropriate for kids who like sponge bob (BTW, I don't think kids should be watching that show as it has 0 educational value and a lot of language/situations that kids should be exposed to).

And, by the way, I'm only 18 so I'm not some old prude. I'm was in a college child development class last semester and we actually discussed this commercial and how ridiculous it is. But, really, if I don't watch the commercial (because it's stupid) I wouldn't want kids to watch it either (because they're not learning anything positive from it).

  • I have not seen this commercial on during the times that my kids watch tv nor have I seen them on the channels that my kids watch. I usually see it after 9 pm on the channels I am watching My shows on. I think it is more directed at adults. They are using a song that was popular when many people who are parents now were teens. I did notice that they cut the part at the end where Sir Mix A Lot says "Booty is booty". I find the commercial to be funny. My 5 y/o daughter has never even seen it and neither has my 10 y/o son so I have no worries. They only watch Disney channel or Nick and they don't watch tv past 8 pm

While I as an adult find it hilarious, I do see your point about it being inappropriate for kids.

I think that commercial would be best to be aired on adult channels (HBO, Comedy Central, etc) or done away completely with.

I'm the same way, I'm not normally too bothered by marketing commercials unless it's something that truly is inappropriate.

Omg, I was talking to my hubby about that just the other day. I am hoping that it is more directed towards adults because it doesn't actually mention the kid's meal until after they mention the meal. I really think I am wrong about that, and that it is a vulgar commercial for young children, but I can hope can't I?

UGH!!! Here we go agian...that commercial is target toward ADULTS, and only shown on TV during adult shows at nighttime, not during kids shows or daytime. If your kids are watching those shows with you, maybe that is the bigger issue. I have seen the commercial. My kids have not. Not becasue they are sheltered, but becasue they are in bed by 8 p.m!!!

yes i think its not a good think. i am not a parent but i know how that stuff gets into younger kids minds. i have a 6 yr. old brother who watches that stuff. i dont think spongebob is too bad but i think cartoon network is extremely a NO for kids to watch. it really does rub off on them and my mother tells my siblings not to watch it but they all do anyway. i want to block it but i cant. i wonder who even created that channel because they were out of their mind but i doubt they realized at that point how much controversy that it would bring.

    God bless-livie

I totally agree. That is a child's commercial and those girls didn't have much on. No child should see that. Especially on TV. Children are being exposed to things at such a young age now a days.

Another one of the dumbest commercials I've ever seen. Just change the channel and don't eat at Burger King.
