Why does my cat love my mom more than me?

I give him as much affection as mom does, but he'll gladly ignore me just to be near her. I'm not really jealous, but i'm wondering why. She picks him up more often, while I can't hold him at all, and he sleeps with her instead of me. What did I do to my cat?

Update:

No, I feed him just as much, even more than my mom does.

You didn't do anything wrong at all. Cats and other animals, including my dog, tend to bond more to one person than another. It has nothing to do with love. I am sure the cat loves you just as much as your mother. Like people are saying, it can be a matter of food, the cat sees your mother feed it so its bonded more to her.

It might also be your energy. Cats are sometimes very laid back while younger people have more energy. Trying being calmer around the cat, speaking in a smoother tone and moving less erratically and more smooth. The cat might come around and spend more time with you. Just a thought.

In the end remember the cat loves you just as much!

Every animal has sort of a "favorite person". Its not that you did anything wrong, maybe it is that he just prefers her. Or she is older and more dominant in the household, which would pose a legitimate answer as to why he is more affectionate towards her. I'm sorry if you feel left out:(. maybe you should get another kitten or cat and play with it a lot and maybe you will have a better relationship with it. If you start out building a relationship earlier with an animal, chances are the bond will be stronger. That is why I say another kitten or even a puppy would be good to purchase. Hope everything works out!:)

well the second person that answered your question im not saying that she is wrong but she could be right dont get me wrong but i have my own cat and my mom doesn't like cats as MUCH any more (long sad story) and she doesnt pay any attention to him a lot and my mom doesn't hurt him but he sometimes will listen to her more like if i say "get out of there" he will then just go away and come back but if my mom says that he'll leave immediately thats because i spend a lot of time with my cat and give him love and he knows im not a bad person but anyway cats are independent and tend not to show affection until they feel a bond. or when she starts coming closer pet it if she likes the petting she'll jump in your lap and let you continue petting it. also some other advise (that was inda cheesy) but also spend way more time with your cat because even though you think you may spend as much time with your cat as much as your mom she may more when your not there so spend lots of time with your cat play with it with some toys with catnip inside or something like that and if your cat likes cat nip do what i do with my cat get a old rag you don't care about and put cat nip on it or a scratching post your cat will go crazy (if it likes cat nip) but anyway sit down with it play with it if your holding it and it wants down to go to your mom or something let it go dont force it. then sooner or later the cat will know your not strict with it or rude and let it do whatever (besides scratch furniture or whatever) then it will want to sleep with you and more stuff =]

If your mom feeds him, it would be logical for him to favour her. Also, the cat may be sensing that your mom is the head of your family, and is gravitating towards her for that reason. Or, it could simply be that your cat and your mom's personality go really well together.

Its part of a cats independance. They choose who they like and who they dont like. I doubt very much you have done anything wrong or something to upset your cat, its just the way they are. My cat loves my partner more than she loves me, but it doesnt matter, because i have got enough love for both of us.

I'll bet that she's the one to put the food in his bowl, and clean up all his little messes. Cats can smell that.
