I have noticed that too..It seems the industry is going to PCIe and USB. I believe the manufacturer have pretty much incorporated good quality sound and such into their main boards and they seem to think you don't need to add expansion cards, and nowadays the main boards and the operating systems recognize USB devices easily and you can get usb sound and such a reasonable prices if you don't want the on board sound - i.e. Now Pcie is being placed as the replacement of pci and agp. Eventually, we will not see pci either- it will all be Pcie.

You might check out wikipedia's article on PCIe

in the journey that your mobo has the region for the PCI-Ex port (holes on the mobo with the copper lines), you could desolder the PCI-Ex from an previous board and solder it onto your new board. or you ought to purchase the port from an electronics position. I honestly have considered some places promote PCI and EISA yet I honestly have not in any respect considered PCI-Ex. in case you do not pick to move with the help of all that, purchase yet another mobo and this time, visit the producer's web site and browse the specification.

1 st answer is to save space, 2nd is technology is better than 10 yrs ago. then they could only hold up to a gig with 4 slots at 256 a piece. now its like 2 slots some 1 but hold 4gigs per slot or even more.

www.repaircomps.com and pci slots are for video audio etc. ... not memory

Because most systems like sound video audio are all intergrated into mainboard therefore you do not need as many pci slots.

Because most of the things that used to occupy those slots ie. sound card, network adaptors, raid controllers, firewire, usb etc. are now all built into the motherboard as standard.
