Are child car seats required ................?

Do airlines require children to be in a car seat, or can they just sit in the normal plane seat? I'm traveling with my 2 year old and my 3 month old. I know the infant has to be on my lap, but my son has a ticket and I was just wondering if I will have to take his car seat or if he can sit on the plane seat?

If the child is ticketed, and is under age two, a car seat is required. Age two and up, or lap riding under age two, it is not required. So in your case, neither of your children are required to have a car seat on the plane.

Source(s): Have flown with my children in all of the above scenarios. Only needed a car seat when my child was under two and in his own ticketed seat.
