do you ever put your cat on a chain so he/she can go outside without getting lost?

Update:

my cats have been "indoor cats" all their lives, but sometimes I feel bad that they never go outside. I'm sure they would love it.

A cat should only be taken out on a harness and leash set. Leashing a plain collar can severely damage their delicate necks. I tried my cat on a harness once but it didn't work out. I have seen several cats who were leash and harness trained though.

I put my cat on a harness and tie him in the yard. He loves it. You never want to just let your cat roam- 1- dangers from cars and elsewhere, 2- pet cats kill over 9 million song birds a year in the US, and are forcing some species into extinction. 3- if your cat is not spayed or neuters, you don't want them to come home pregnant or in a fight with another tom, 4- fleas, lice, etc, they could pick up from the neighborhood

my daughter has 2 cats..one will go out side on a lease.he is the one that will run out side when you least expect him to and will be gone for hours..the other one will fight you tooth and nail to stay inside..funny part is the first one .the one that runs outside ..was abandoned as a kitten..we found him 6 wks old starving and raised him..the second one we got when he was 4 months old and wild and raised outside..he will claw you to death if you try to take him out side

but yeah you can train them..but first start in the house..
