It depends on the fracture and the results. If the plate can be removed it is usually not taken out until 6 months to a year following surgery. There is often better to keep the plate where it is and avoid a second surgery(to remove it, and avoid the associated risks of surgery unless there is a significant reason to remove it. You should ask the surgeon though.
