Kit N Kaboodles, is this a decent cat food?

I love my cat, but simply can't afford the more expensive brands of cat food any more.

Is Kit N Kaboodles brand a decent cheaper brand food? Thanks for any information.

Price of food doesn't include vet bills and heart ache

Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health

Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.

Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingredient a muscle meat like chicken or meal or other things?

Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Male cats are especially prone to blockages

from dry food. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with grains and carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process. ( Have a fat cat?)

Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food but in Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.

You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all.

THE BEST CAT FOODS CONTAIN NO GRAINS NO BYPRODUCTS

Cats are meat eaters not cereal or rice eaters

Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. I would rather feed a middle grade canned food then the top of the line dry food.

Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck? http://www.felinefuture.com/nutrition/bpo_ch4a.php

    Please read about cat nutrition.

Vetinarian diets The reason your vet thinks so highly of the pet food they sell probably has more to do with money than nutrition. In vet school, the only classes offered on nutrition usually last a few weeks, and are taught by representatives from the pet food companies. Vet students may also receive free food for their own dogs and cats at home. They could get an Iams notebook, a Purina purse and some free pizza. http://iml.jou.ufl.edu/projects/Spring04/Perhach/P...

we use it (not exclusively) ... the cats like it ... almost seem to prefer it and so far we have no 'food-related' health issues to relay.

    (20 yrs worth of usage)

Although there are 'better nutrient' blends, not many are as economical. We do use herbal supplements and vitamins ... providing a good balance overall.

Although we have numerous (27) of varying ages, not everyone has the same diet requirements, some are kittens, some are 'adults' and several are 'antiques' (beyond senior) ... they do go outside (i think it makes a difference) so they're able to add 'wild' to their diet at their leisure, whether it be weeds, grass, critters, excellent exercise or just soaking in some vitamin D ... they also are fed a wet pate' meal daily.

I would not recommend exclusive use of the KnK, but it should suffice as a subsitute ... good luck and best wishes

    mouse

A friend just forwarded this ... if you're considering Nutro (which is usually a good food) ... please be advised of their current 'recall' condition and the likeliness of encountering some on shelves, even today. Please be well aware of what you're feeding, if you go there ... read for yourself.

this story was published 6/3/09 ... it is NOT old news, good luck, do some research and may you find what works best for you !!

Sounds like a vet question to me but I can tell you when I do give my cat kit and kaboodle he goes crazy and gets very hyped up. I had to quit giving it to him because he was gaining too much weight.

It's full of cheap fillers, and surely you want to do better for them than that. Two foods that are decent and affordable are Petsmart's Authority brand, and Nutro. No by-products, and no corn. Much better for your cats thant Kit N Kaboodle and the other grocery store brands.

No it's not. It is junk food and you should avoid it along with all the other crap foods sold at Walmart and the grocery store. I know feeding good food is expensive (I feed 8 cats Wellness food) but feeding a cheap, full of fillers and by-products food will end up costing you more than buying good food in the long run. Cats who eat junk food are at higher risk of developing kidney problems, digestive problems, food allergies, and feline diabetes. Your vet bills could go through the roof not to mention your cat will suffer. Cats who eat junk need more of it to feel satisfied so you end up buying more food and spending as much as you would normally on good food. There are more fillers in crap food which means there's more waste so you end up buying more cat litter as well.

There are some less expensive brands that are very good. Look into Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul. Taste of the Wild is very good if you feed dry. These are mid-priced foods that have top ingredients. The wet formula of Authority by Petsmart isn't bad either. Here's a good article on how to decide which food is good for your cat to eat.
