1984, "thought police" is this possible in the near future? kinda like the "War on Terror?

Looking at the advancing laws that seek to disregard freedoms. Like the freedom to live without fear. Or the freedom to live privately in a private space? We are seeing a consistent encroachment on the liberties we in this country so very much value; yet take for granted? Could we be looking [in the near future] this idea of "thought police" as written in the Novel 1984? Or our we already here. Not, to exclude the cultish popular culture which has desecrated the freedom to hold and individualized view on politics and world views. I am a writer so the ideas are food for thought? Thanks.

It's already well established in most places in the world and is beginning to be established in the United States. Many people are in jail right now in Western nations (particularly in Europe and Canada) only on the basis of something they have said.

We have been doing the "war on drugs" for many years to move the country to a police state and eliminate the constitution. This has been a great success creating a police state, and a complete failure at controlling drugs. And the American people cry for more more more. What a hoot.

Bush/Cheney brought us waaaaayyy too close to "1984."

The American people woke up to this abuse, and that's why Obama is now President.

I'm surprised you haven't detected the odor of "thought police" on Y!A!.

Try North Korea and Iran and Cuba, and pretty soon, Venezuela. Bush and Cheney are gone, it won't be the US.
