How long will female house cats stay outside if mating?

My female calico house cat has shown signs of being in heat. When I opened my back door last night , she got loose. She was out for about 10 hours. There is a male stray cat living somewhere on our property. If she is pregnant, I have a long list of people wanting kittens. She is not spayed because we really don't have the money. If you now how much spaying is, please include it in your answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Update:

As you know, I can`t get her spayed know because she might be pregnant. Or can I?

Update 2:

Okay, I know how much spaying costs.... Thank you!!!!!!

It takes a lot less than 10 hours to become pregnant.

Contact your local animal humane society and see if they offer any programs to help reduce the cost of the spay. We have several clients that have had the $15 spay because of these programs. My kitten's spay cost somewhere in the $200-300 range with the blood work and the laser and all that, but it was not required of me to do that. I believe the spay, alone, would have cost about $180 (full price). This, of course, would vary depending on where you live and your vet.

Note, that if she is not spayed, she will likely continue getting out when she goes through her heat cycle, which increases the risk of pregnancy. Those kittens cost money too, and multiple litters may outweigh the cost of a one-time operation, which also could dramatically reduce vet bills down the road (no risk of uterine or ovarian cancers and reduced risk for mammary tumors)

Cats can be spayed while pregnant. Call your local shelters, as many or most of them have free or low-cost clinics. Spaying is much, much cheaper than raising a litter of kittens. Nature isn't always kind, and things can go wrong during birth. An emergency c-section at our local emergency vet can cost up to $2700. Yes, that's at the high end but do you read all of the posts here about cats with retained placentas, stuck kittens, very ill kittens that need vet visits, and so on? How are you going to afford the care of what may be 6 kittens? No, you didn't plan on her getting out, but she did, and that length of time is more than enough for her to get pregnant.

Start calling the shelters now, as the sooner that she's spayed, the easier the surgery will be.

Cats are not like dogs they do not have a schedule for going into heat. They go in when there is a male around. Depending on where you live there should be a spay/neuter clinic somewhere nearby. You should be able to find these by calling and asking at the animal shelter. Some counties also offer low cost vouchers for local vet that will give you a huge financial break in the cost of the spay. The final cost can range anywhere from $0.00 - $75.00 depending on your income. (The higher is the typical cost of the procedure here for a female in heat.) Hope it helps. Good Luck!

She was out long enough to get pregnant, and she most likely did. The cost of spaying will vary from vet to vet, and area to area, but a ballpark figure would be about $100. That's a lot cheaper than it will cost to raise a litter of kittens, and if there are any complications it will be even more expensive. It is not too late to get her spayed, although it may cost a little more if she is already pregnant. Give your vet a call and ask for prices. You may be able to get a low/no cost spay through your local shelter. You should call around see if you can qualify for a discount.

    Good luck.

If you truly don't have the money, most states will spay or neuter cats for free through participating shelters. You have to provide information about your income and then you will receive a voucher. Without financial assistance, spaying usually costs about $100 or less. It is really important that you get your cat spayed, because even though you have a list of people that want your kittens, when those people adopt from you it means that other kittens are left in shelters to be euthanized.

Visit www.lovethatcat.com/spayneuter.html for more information about these programs in your state.

Spaying is MUCH cheaper than raising kittens, or having to take mom in for an emergency c section because something goes wrong. Contact your local shelters for a discount program or vouchers to local vets, and get her spayed ASAP. I would almost guarantee she is pregnant as we speak, and i am SURE you don't want the financial burden of 4-6 more mouths to feed.
