A four day cruise for the honeymoon?

I know this isn't exactly about weddings...its about the honeymoon. But I figured I'd ask it here since you ladies (and gentlemen) are usually pretty helpful.

My fiance and I plan to book our honeymoon soon. Originally we weren't going to do anything huge since we don't have a whole lot of money to spend on it. But then we started researching 4 day cruises and found that some seem to be within our budget. We don't want to do a full week because he is in the military so he doens't get a whole lot of time off.

We were thinking of doing one to the Carribbean or the Bahamas. But my question to you is, do you think thats worth it? We would have to fly down to Miami (from Philly) since thats where the ship leaves from. Do you think the price of a 2 plane tickets (about $175) and the price of the cruise (for both its about $400 or $500) is worth only 4 days on a cruise?I've never been on a cruise before so I don't know what a good deal is.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, that is definitely worth it. For 100 dollars per person per night, you get unlimited amounts of food and entertainment, people waiting on you hand and foot, etc. Also, if you mention you are newlyweds some cruise waitstaff or entertainers will do special things for you!

I would definitely spend 400-500 on a cruise.

Shore excursions can get expensive, but in most Caribbean locations, there is usually an option for a "day at the beach" which will be very cheap.

Cruising is my kind of trip--5 Star accomodations and stuff to do at night, but relaxing days on the beach.

My sister has been on 19 cruises - she has five kids. We've only been on two but we're leaving for the Caribbean on our 3rd in 16 days. It is really exciting there is so much to do on a cruise. You can play chess on this huge walk-around chess board, ping-pong tables, there a youth theater, you can go to shows every night (mostly adult-level), there a video arcade, there are all kinds of sports facilities - rock climbing, basketball etc. There are contests around the pool, there a computer games room etc. Here's a tip for your parents - only book with cruise-approved excursions, don't let them go off on their own in a sleazy cab and "do their own thing" like we did a little unsafe. You can read all about the next day's youth activities. The excursions are awesome - rip-lines in the jungle trees, horseback riding swing with the sting rays, lunch on the beach with a steel band, take scuba-diving courses, I once dove 35 feet down off a cliff into a small natural pool in a river. Sorry, I had to go to work. I'm back. Please have your parents visit in the auditorium or room when they have a person explaining the future shore excursions. You can ask questions and find out which shore excursions would be of most interest to all 6 of you. Perhaps mom will take three on her favorite and dad will drag the other 3 on his favorite excursion. There are just so many things to do you'll be exhausted every night. THINGS you might forget to pack. A waterproof small container (not a tube) to place you cruise ID card in and a few US bills for when u are snorkeling/swimming. I am getting one a it larger than a credit card. Sometimes you are way down the beach or off on an excursion and you can't get back to your purse or room quickly.

Kristy is right. There are cruises the leave from Philadelphia, and also from New Jersey. The only downside is that you might not get a four day cruise leaving from either of those places.

If you really break it down, cruises can be a very affordable alternative. If the cruise is $500, you are getting a place to stay and all your food for $125 a day. I think that is a great deal!

I'm not sure I would want to go on a 4 day Carribbean Cruise. You spend much of your time at sea, and then you get 2 or 3 excursions--just 1 day to explore each city. It would be rushed and not relaxing. When I took a Cruise, we often had to be at the place where you queue up to exit at 7- or 7:30 am, so we had to get up at least an hour earlier to allow time to shower, dress, and eat breakfast. Also, on "at sea" days, every lounge chair at the pool was taken by 7:30 am by families marking them with their towels.

If you only have 4 days for a honeymoon, you could fly to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Take a some time to explore, such as the El Yunge Rainforest (has La Mina Waterfalls). But this way, you'll also have some time to relax on the beach. And you won't have to get up at 6 am.

P.S. If you sail directly from Philly or Baltimore, that saves you airfare, but adds 2 extra "at sea" days where you are not able to vacation in the Carribean.

P.P.S. Sleeping well on a cruise is not a given. We had a nice expensive cabin with balcony, but as it turned out, we were right underneath the deck chairs. We'd hear the crew dragging deck chairs in the middle of the night so they could mop.

That sounds like a great deal. Cruising is fun because you have everything you want there--food, entertainment and activities. So, if you want to do nothing that's fine but if you want to do something you have those options too.

I would also look into cruises that leave from Philly or even from New Jersey or New York in order to save you that day of traveling and maybe some money for airfare.

I think that sounds great! But be sure to give yourselves PLENTY of time to get to Miami. My fsil had a cruise for her honeymoon, and they had to get up at 4 am the morning after the wedding and drive an hour to the airport, where their first flight was delayed. They finally got to DC for their second flight, and they sat on the tarmac for 4 hours! They had to get off the plane in DC (plane was broken or something) and book a hotel for the night. By that time they had missed the cruise, so they had to fly to Puerto Rico the next day, spend the night in a sketchy hotel, and get on the cruise there during one of it's stops! Oh, and to add insult to injury, the airline lost their luggage. So they had no clothes and had to spend all of their honeymoon money on clothes to wear. Just be careful!

Nope. I don't think they are worth it, but you have to decide for yourselves. My SIL and her mom LOVE to go on cruises. My bro won't go again.

You will be spending all your time traveling in a hotel with maybe one, possibly two stops. Why not just GO to the Bahamas directly and relax. They have hotels there and you will have more time with each other. Or maybe just go to Miami and save the money you didn't spend on the cruise for more fun things to do around Miami. If all you want to do is sleep (or other hotel room activities), then maybe a cruise is just right for you. As another poster mentioned, for $125, all your room and board is covered.

you betta believe it! is it worth it? yes yes yes. those ships pack a ton into those 4 day cruises. we took one recently in mid june last year from miami to cozumel. we snorkled at a national park, it was spectacular. we went into cozumel to carlos and charlies and partied with other cruise guests. the boat also went to key west.

back on the boat you can stay up all night dancing if you like.

my caveat, be very careful about hurricanes. we hit it lucky and had perfect weather, the week after the boat was in a storm the whole time.

i have been on week long cruises and couldnt wait to get off the boat, they were too long.

Man, I say go for it. Cruises are sooo much fun, although you will probably get a better deal if you bite the bullet and he takes a couple extra days.

You will never sleep as well as you will on a cruise ship.

Source(s): Took a 7 day NCL cruise 2 years ago to Grand Cayman, Cozumel, and Key West and it was amazing!

I went on a cruise years (and years...) ago, and had a wonderful time. I've always wanted to do it again, but things change. This is a wonderful chance for you to do this now. It seems like a good deal to me, but I'm not up on these things. Do a little more comparing online, and if it still looks worth it, then go and enjoy yourselves. :)
