Detached computer power supply question (difficult)?

When I remove my computer power supply from the case, should it work in stand-alone mode? Meaning, if I plug it into the wall by itself, should the voltages appear at the connectors?

It's not, that's why I'm asking. On the 24 pin motherboard connector, are there pins that need to be shorted together to make the power supply work?

To try and make this simpler, I'll reword it: I have a power supply that works in the case. The fan turns and the voltages are there. I take it out of the case and plug it in, and the fan doesn't turn and there are no voltages. Are there pins on the 24 pin motherboard connector that need shorted together or is there a ground that needs connected somewhere to make the supply work outside of the case?

Thank you sincerely.

Leave it in the case. The top four pins work with your EIDE circuit so you must have a 350watts or above PSU. I don't know why or understand why you would run the PSU outside the case?

you will get PSU from 460 w from approximately $50 AUD, I just about have been given a 550w for $fifty 4 at Netplus, yet that grow to be stocktake yet you mat nonetheless get a good purchase? With a a 1Gb pictures they advise the PSU be 400w or greater advantageous, so ther is your benchmark?
