Car in storage, what do I need to do?

I am going to put my car in storage for several months. What should I do to prepare? Once in high school I got grounded and my dad put my car in the garage for 3 months. At the end, it would not start, the battery had drained. What do I do to prevent this? Anything else I need to do besides that?

disconnect the battery, pour some Sta-Bil fuel stabilizer in the tank, put some air in the tires. Maybe drain the coolant and oil and put in fresh one after you come back. Depends on what several months means...

Drain the gas (if gas sets for a long time it will tarnish and can ruin your fuel system). Unplug the battery too (It will probably still loose its charge after a while, just charge it before you go to start the car again). Before you start the car again after storing it you might wanna change the oil too just since its been setting so long, get all the junk out of the bottom of the oil pan that has settled. The oil change isn't really that big of a deal, its just a suggestion.

Your car will always use a little bit of the battery to keep the engine prepared to start. So you need to just unplug the black cord on the battery. Make sure it can't fall down or move and touch. So tape away or something. No other preperation should be needed in less its more than a few months.

Why don’t you keep your car in temperature control car storage like http://www.storagedeluxe.com/car-storage.asp?utm_s... that is affordable as well?

put a trickle charger on it, or just take the battery out and assume you'll need a new one.
