What's a good substitute for bleach to get stains out of white clothes?

I don't like bleach, as I hate how it smells, and I believe it is too toxic.

Any substitutions that are either less toxic, or nontoxic, would be appreciated. Thanks.

Rub Tide w/Beach Alternative into the stains. Let it set for 15 minutes and then toss into the wash. You may not have to add any additional detergent to the wash as the soak may be enough.

Chlorine bleach can weaken the fabrics and sometimes makes the whites dingy.

If you have oil based stains, use Ronsonal Fluid to saturate the stain.

If the odor is offensive, open a window or outside door - it will dissipate. Wash as normal.

You can find Ronsonal Fluid with tobacco products. It is a cleaning fluid and is also used for filling cigarette lighters - I have used it for years and have always had success getting rid of new and old oil or grease stains.

I like to use a small amount of Hydrogen Peroxide and Baking Soda. Make sure it is agitated well before you put your clothes in though, or it will have the same effect as bleach on your clothes and streak them.

I like that combination because bleach irritates my skin unless it is in very minute quantities and gone through a second rinse cycle.

How about the real answer, use 1/4 cup of Cascade dish washing liquid, first fill tub full of water, then add cascade, then add your clothes, use warm water, not hot, will actually get them whiter than when they were new, it also contains bleach, but you will not smell it, nor does it have the same chemical properties

Source(s): we manufacture all bleaches, which for those who guess and don't know, bleach is made from salt ( sodium chloride is salt)

If Billy Mays hadn't passed on he would recommend you buy Oxiclean.
