Dark, reddish urine? My female Papillon has been urinating this color urine.?

She has been urinating on our bed and in the house. And the color is concentrated and reddish at times. Could she have a urinary tract infection?

This is a significant health issue that your dog is unfotunately suffering with.

You need to schedule a veterinary appointment as the longer this goes on without treatment damage may be occuring within her kidneys.

She will need a full blood panel and uinalysis.

If you are able to catch a urine sample first thing in the morning that would be extremely valuable.

You want to collect the sample mid stream so let her pee a little bit then collect the sample.

If you are unable to get a sample the vet can obtain one via cystocentisis.

If an infection is suspected the vet will un a cultue and sensitivity.

A culture and sensitivity is expensive but it is extemely useful in diagnosing and popely treating a urinay tract infections

The culture isolates and identifies exactly what organism is causing the infection.

The sensitivity reveals exactly which antibiotic will kill the invading organism.

Without a culture and sensitivity a vet is making an educated guess at what oganism is causing the infection and which antibiotic will treat it.

You can waste valuable time and money using ineffective antibiotics tying to cure a UTI without the aid of the culture and sensitivity.

Besides a UTI it could be she has uroliths or stones, crystals in her bladder.

The toy breeds can be affected with stones or crystals.

Sometimes dissolution diets work to dissolve the minerals but many times the stones are too large and require surgery for removal.

The surgery can un anywhere from 800-2000 dollars.

Post op the dogs need to be on a special dissolution diet that will dissolve and inhibit stone formation in the future.

I would take her to an emergency facility tomorrow morning as she has got to be in pain.

Whether she shows it or not blood equals inflammation and inflammation is painful.

Blood also means possible kidney damage.

You need to correct this problem before irrevesible damage occurs.

    Best of luck

She does sound like she has an infection. Take her to a vet and have her checked.

Also, do you see blood in the urine or is it just very very concentrated? Maybe for some reasons she isn't drinking water so her urine has become very very concentrated. Either way a trip to the vet will help. He will analyze the urine and tell you what's wrong.

Dark urine tends to mean either a kidney infection or poor kidney function. The kidneys process all the fluids and expell toxic waste from the horse's system. Or it could mean that she is dehydrated. Or she has a urinary tract infection. All ways, she needs to be seen by the vet soonest! The vet will know what to look for and I suggest that you get a sample of her wee if you can in a clean bottle or jar. Just shake some straw under her and she should oblige.

It sounds like there is blood in the urine. There are a number of reasons your dog might have blood in his or her urine, some more serious than others. Some possible reasons for dog blood in urine include:

Infections:- Inflammation of the bladder (Cystitis)

    - Bacterial infection in the kidney (Pyelonephritis)

    - Prostate Inflammation (Prostatitis)

    - Inflammation of the urethra. (The urethra is the transport tube leading from the bladder to discharge urine outside the body (Urethritis) (rare cause)

    Stones (Calculi or Cystic)

    - Bladder Stones (Urethral)

    - Kidney Stones (Renal)

    Injury or Trauma

    - Bladder- Kidney(s)- Urethra (tube from bladder to the outside of the body to transport urine).

Abnormal Uncontrolled Cell Growth (Neoplasia or Tumor)

    - Bladder

    - Kidney(s)

    - Urethra

    - Prostate

    Bleeding disorders

    - Warfarin poisoning (Warfarin is a medication that keeps blood from clotting; also known as an anticoagulant or blood thinner).

    No Known Cause

    - Bleeding in prostate with no known cause (Idopathic Prostatic hemorrhage)

    - Bleeding in the kidney with no known cause (Idiopathic renal hemorrhage)

    Others Causes

    - Urethral prolapse (when the tissue of the urethra sags downward into the vagina or the end of the penis)

Don’t panic if you see dog health blood in urine. It may be serious, but it may not. Getting early veterinary care is important.

Yes. I highly recommend you consult your dogs veterinarian, a.s.ap. The #1 cause could be a urinary tract infection. BUT you must get your vets opinion.

    -could be a uterine infection

    -dogs can pass stones

    -poisoned

    and more.

Yes,she probably does have an infection or stones.Either way,she needs to see a vet.You can be sure that she is in pain and not feeling her best, and the longer the infection goes untreated, the worse it will get and it will damage the dog's kidneys.

It certainly sounds like an infection. She will need to take a trip to the vet. Most likely she'll be prescribed an antibiotic. Is she spayed? If not, she could be in season.
