Can a cat be allergic to it's litter? And if so, is there a good kind to try that is hypo-allergenic?

Yes, cats can be allergic to the litter you use - or something in the litter you use.
What kind of symptoms is your cat experiencing?
Is the reaction a skin reaction? (Such as sores on the paw pads or nail beds) A respiratory reaction? (Sneezing, wheezing, coughing?) A digestive reaction (throwing up after licking off paws)
You can try different products, but what is an allergen to one cat, may not be to another. You may end up trying a number of products before coming across the right one for your cat. Something without colors or fragrance will be best.
Make sure you don't swtich the product "cold turkey" on your cat or you might end up with potty rebellion. Gradually mix the new litter in, slowly increasing the new while decreasing the old.
Your best bet is to talk with your vet to rule out similar, but completely different problems, that can mimick an allergy before trying any new products.
Good luck to you and your kitty!

Yes cats can be allergic to there litter. I know there are hypo allergenic kinds, but I am not sure because I don't have a cat. Try googling it or looking for it in one of your local stores, or call your cats vet.

Cats can be allergic to anything people can. Cats with flatter faces, like Persians, tend to be particularly sensitive to the dust from many litters. If you're noticing watery eyes or responses to the litter, try a less dusty litter. I've known several people who have been pleased with Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat litter for long haired cats, and I use the ultra version of Dr. Elsey's, as it doesn't seem to be near as dusty as many others.

Of course, it's always best to check with your vet if you suspect allergies. It could be something entirely different that's going on. Best of luck to you!

I don't know if they can be allergic to the litter, but it seems possible as much as being allergic to anything that comes in contact with your skin (or theirs)
Try wood pellets. The kind you put in your wood stove. They make a great litter.
