My cat picked up a piece of raw chicken with his mouth?

My hubby was preparing chicken and my cat Christmas picked up a raw piece in his mouth- like a huge chicken breast. He did not eat it. My husband got it away from him, but should I be overly concerned that he could get sick?

Update:

Thanks everyone for your helpful advice!

My cat ate a wren and some kind of dark blue bird today. This is her diet just about every day now that she's cleaned all the mice out. You have nothing to worry about. Cats digestive systems are designed for RAW meat. Or did you miss the part about them being OBLIGATE CARNIVORES.

Your cat will be completely fine. In fact... Raw chicken is a great food for cats!

My cats eat a completely raw food diet and have been for years! Raw meat, when handled properly, is complete safe for cats to eat!

He'll be fine. I occasionally give mine little pieces of raw chicken or lamb as treats. While there is a slight risk for them to contract salmonella, it's not as likely as with us. Keep an eye on him for signs of illness like vomiting or lethargy, but I wouldn't be too concerned if I were you.

Of course not (cats are carnivores), its safe for him to have more. Some companies sell raw food just for cats: http://www.amorepetfoods.com/ Its actually better for them instead of kibble and all those pre-made foods because of all of the preservatives, bi-products, and all that bad stuff... According to wikipedia housecats: Cats feed on small prey such as insects, birds, and rodents. Cats are classified as obligate carnivores, because their physiology is geared toward efficient processing of meat, and lacks efficient processes for digesting plant matter.

I feed my cats the leftover pieces of raw chicken all the time, it is good for them, what do you think feral cats eat? They don't exactly have little bonfires to cook their birdies and mice.

    NO, why?

Cats eat raw birds and mice. They don't eat cooked food except when humans feed them, and their digestion is made for that. Your cat only licked and held the chicken. No harm done, except depriving him of treat.

the exterior is merely as lots an component of the hen as is the carcase or the bones. Cats interior the wild consume uncooked meat. I feed stray cats uncooked hen (they gained't consume dried nutrition and that i won't administration their on an primary basis intake if I circulate away canned nutrition out for them) The wings, wing information, hen frames, necks, feet, or maybe the gibblets, all without the slightest project. merely you may desire to shrink the beef into smaller parts than an entire wing. Debone in case you like. in case you should feed the cat 'uncooked' nutrition do away with the smaller leg bone(s). maximum individuals save removed from giving their cats sparkling uncooked meat with the aid of their concerns over bacteria, salmonella and contagions, etc. in my opinion I choose to gently boil (blanche in boiling water for 30 seconds) the hen first for my very own piece of strategies. yet it incredibly is merely me.

Probably not. Everything I've heard says that raw poultry is not nearly the danger to cats that it is to humans.
