What is a better party, Democrat or Republican?

I need to choose one for a project and don't know which is better. Please be as biased as you can (I need to pick one, being unbiased wont help) and don't worry about being rude, it's just an opinion. Please try to not only state why one party is good, but why the other party is bad. Thanks!

Update:

So the way the project works is that the teacher is having all of the republicans state why repulicans are the better party and then the democrats state why democrats are better and why republicans are worse. The teacher says that no one is allowed to say anything bad about democrats because it would be considered racist.

Update 2:

I forgot to mention that we are allowed to choose other parties, but if we do we can't participate in the debate. Our teacher says that the other parties aren't allowed to participate in real life so we can't do it in the classroom either. Also, we have to write a 5-page paper about why we chose that different party since we won't be in the debate, so obviously no one is choosing anything other than the 2, what my teacher calls "real" parties.

George Washington said it best, "They serve to organize faction, to give it an artificial and extraordinary force; to put, in the place of the delegated will of the nation, the will of a party, often a small but artful and enterprising minority of the community"

No party is good because it squashes individual action. Politicians do not vote their conscience because they're always following the party's lead, despite their own inclination. Rather than working together on things they agree on, and against each other on things they don't, they work with the party and divide the government, and thus the country, pretty much down the middle. Voters end up voting based on party affiliation to help decide the balance of power in the house and senate, rather than voting for who we actually like, and choosing who they want running the show based on an R or a D next to their names, instead of informing themselves about the issues.

If I were you, I wouldn't choose sides like that. Both parties are disasters that are being inflicted on us. Right now, I'd say the Democrats are doing the most damage to the country, since they're in power (ask me when W was running things, it would have been a different answer), and the Republicans have done the most damage to themselves by having no standards or direction.

I'm not sure how critiquing the Democrats is racist. Any valid criticism is valid despite pigmentation. Additionally, Democrat politicians are mostly white guys, so I'm not following her reasoning at all, and I think you should follow up with the school administration if that's the direction your teacher has given you.

I guess I'll stop ranting now.

Unfortunately for you, the structure of this assignment is flawed by design, and, continues to promote a divisiveness that needs to stop. This is why:

Our country is populated by 300,000,000 people, give or take; a little more than half of whom vote. Of this population, they allign themselves within 2 parties for the most part, but there is also Libertarian, Independent, Green, etc. It is highly unlikely that this many people hew strictly within the boundaries of whatever their respective party affiliation may be, which, put another way, places most Americans in more of a "center" rather than what are currently being described in the extremes as "left" or "right." To continue, the current brands of each of these Parties has been redefined throughout history, and today's version of Democrats and Republicans have become so polarized that they make every effort to not allow any common area of consensus or agreement to take place. To do so gives credibility to the other Party.

So, to conclude. These Parties become more rejuvenated when people become more involved in the political process. In fact, they cannot change or evolve *unless* people get involved. What's more, the more constituent involvement, the more likelihood that other parties will start to form because the boundaries of a particular party may be too restrictive. Such is what is happening in the Republican Party today. There are those of a more moderate bent who want to diminish or sever the more extreme religous faction's influence so that bloviates like Rush Limbaugh do not continue to decide what the party platform should be.

I'm really unhappy with both parties. The real problem is not one party or the other, it's that money has become so important in our political system. Whichever candidate who spends the most money wins about 95% of the time. And both parties get their money from the same sources, so you can't really expect their agendas to be all that much different.

The Republicans under Reagan and the Bushes were committed to reversing FDR's New Deal. They really wanted to destroy Social Security, Medicare, and other social programs so they could spend the money for their own purposes. They seemed to be committed to turning the US into a third-world country, where a few people are super-rich and the rest serve only as cheap labor. But the Reagan Era is thought to be finally over. Between now and 2012 the party will be working on 'rebranding' and might come up with a new 'image'. It might or might not have the same agenda behind it.

The Democrats used to be the party of working people, families, women and children, etc. But they have sold out to the same money interests, and in a way they can do even more damage because people trust them more. For instance, GHW Bush fought for 4 years for NAFTA but couldn't get people to accept it. Once Clinton got into office he passed NAFTA easily. It hasn't turned out to be a very good idea.

So up until this year we had the choice of: (1) A party that stands for pure evil and (2) a party that stands for nothing at all. This year Obama seems to be taking the Democratic Party in a new, more liberal direction (but still not really -liberal- in the sense of FDR or JFK), and the Republican Party is in total disarray, circling the drain, and frantically trying to pull everyone together to row in the same direction.

    So pick one. 8^<

Republican. Unfortunately the party these days is getting away from it's values. But generally they are for lower taxes, smaller government which means more personal freedom, ya know that stuff that is granted to us in the constitution.

(that we lose more of every day)

Democrats are for more goverment, more control-right down to what you do in your own home. They believe in raising your taxes, so that they can expand their programs and spread your money around to those who have not worked for it.

I believe in helping the poor, I give to charities. I do not think it is the goverment's role to do so.

Can you choose another party? I am a libertarian. We believe in very limited government, states rights, and in the constitution. We believe everyone is equal, we all have the right to suceed or fail. We don't want to control anybody or anything. Power to the people.

just a real quick description. Good luck with your project.

If you are typically a person who accepts others regardless of their skin color, national origin, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion or lack there of, and believe strongly that ALL people are created equally under the law and guaranteed their Constitutional rights regardless of the aboveforementioned, then the Democrat Party is the party to choose.

If you deny science, and facts are somewhat or very racist and sexist, believe that laws, ethics, and morals do not apply to you but you can DICTATE (American-Nazi or American-Taliban) or force them onto others, then heil the Republican Party as the party most representative of your values or lack there of. Fortunately, less than 30% of ALL registered voters relate to the party of Hate and No.

Both parties have their good qualities and there bad qualities... but instead of making america constantly choose between democrat or republican, why can't we all just come together and be americans?

    Independent is the best.

Republicans are idiots that try to run everything by Jesus and what the founding fathers would have wanted (even though they lived over 200 years ago and couldn't have dreamed of the things we have today). They are crooks and cry when they loose.

Democrats are anti-republican. There aren't too many bad things to say about them. Just made up republican propaganda.

Depends, are you the type that feels the need to take care of yourself and your family? then the Republicans are you choice. If you feel the big bad world owes you a living and you depend on other to take care of you, then the Democratic party is the way you should go.
