I want to have a career where I can help people and change the world what kind of majors should I look at?
Not like a doctor or a dentist more along the lines of non profit organizations or helping those who are sick, or working with the 3rd world countries to stop wars or aid those in need. I really want to make a difference but also need to make a living while doing it.

The best way you can "help people" and "change the world" is to get competent and self-sufficient in some field, and contribute to your family and community. Everything else is do-gooder romantic parasitism.

A teacher. You're helping the next generation develop into something more positive than it is now. You can stay here and teach, research new teaching and education techniques, or even travel to third world countries to open up schools for the poor. It's a good opportunity for you and everyone else. Honestly, the pay is not fantastic, but it's definitely livable.

You could get a degree in Human Services and do all types of work with that. You could work with recovering drug addicts or people with Aids or Mentally retarded adults and even young adults and teenagers with problems. I work for a non-profit taking care of mentally retarded adults and let me tell you I think it is one of the most challenging jobs in the world. At times I ask myself what I was thinking in gettting into this field, but there are so many times I leave my job happy because I helped someone. Many of these peoples quality of lives are not that great and a lot of times they get abandoned by their families. Some of them are so happy to see a familiar face come into work everyday because they know you will take them somewhere or do activities with them...On another note, the down side of my job is that a lot of the Mentally retarded people I take care of have Psychiatric issues as well and I have to put up with a lot of physical aggression and assault as well. It comes with working with these type of people, but it is well worth it.
