Memories of memories....G'morning..and your thoughts?

Sitting prim in her

borrowed gown

hands at rest

....wrestling something

How are you's dispensed

niceties, platitudes

drop on unsterile ground

"Can I get you something to eat? Let me go to the fridge."

Reminding her to sit down, rest,

unrest wrinkles her brow, a shade of

yesterday blooms.

"Did you get any of the Brunswick Stew?"

Scattered chatter, recipes recalled

a season ago, pine smells

permeate the palor in the room.

"Honey, I have the recipe, right there on that shelf"

Following the crook of her finger, I glimpse

the spines so carefully arranged, before her

memory fades back into today.

"I'd love that reciple" I say, giving

her hands something to hold.

Update:

'recipe' ha

Update 2:

ma, I am appreciative of the inspiration here! and that me and NY Diva both thought about dryer lint on the same day...

I love not being battered over the head.

This had me in my Grandma's kitchen and I haven't a clue what Brunswick Stew is; I do know what shade "yesterday blooms" are, however.

Beautiful, Mizzy. Every word of it. My own memory is only a little bit different (it was pasta sauce) and in a tiny cave of a kitchen which some day I may wrestle out of memory for my cousins who remember it and my children who will benefit from its lessons.

My mother said to me that some people spent their lives chasing their wants and some spent their lives taking care of other people and now that they are old and senile the want, want, want people can never get enough of anything and the care takers are quiet and accept help when they need it.

And she doesn't even remember her own name.

Wonderful writing this morning. This reminds me of my elderly grandma, aged 98, who still lives at her own home. I really enjoyed reading this. Good job!

    Terrific write!

Isn't it grand when another's words can inspire and spring board our thoughts to a place such as this?

    That is sweet.

    I googled "Brunswick stew"

Most recipes claiming authenticity call for squirrel or rabbit meat. (Apparently)

A snapshot here of love and loss, mental loss. Nicely done.
