Has anyone ever had a toenail removed?

I have an appointment to have my toenail removed next week and I'm really nervous about it. Has anyone had this operation done? What are your experiences?

Don't worry at all! I had the boarders cut numerous times while in school and finally they started growing right. Fast forward 15 years and one of them was getting worse by the month. I knew the look and knew I had to see the foot doctor again. He gave me the option of another cut on the boarder or to simply remove it. Toenail problems run in my family so I opted for the removal.

I had it done June 26. They numb you so you don't feel a thing. About 2 days later you have to start soaking it in a solution (whatever the doctor thinks is best for your situation) 3-4 times/day (15-20 min.). Within days parts of the bandage can be removed. They will probably advise you to cover the area with a bandage of some sort any time you wear a shoe. You won't feel much pain-more like tenderness and pretty sensitive at first. It gets better day by day. You'll probably have a followup visit with the doctor about 2 weeks later.

I think around the 3rd week it had started to scab over a bit and not be so sensitive. Now that it's been 4 weeks I'm lightly wrapping in with gauze before putting socks and shoes. I expect to be back to normal in just a few more days. So start to finish-about a month. No real pain to worry about-just a lot of soaks and bandaging. Honestly though, it's all worth it-I don't reget it one bit!!!! That stupid nail has given me more trouble, work and pain over the years-I should have had it removed the first time around. You'll be glad you did-you'll never miss it.

Yes, I have had BOTH of my 'big' toe's nails removed. It's really not a big deal at all. Don't worry or be scared about it. If you've had to have any work on your nails done in the past, I STRONGLY recommend that you have it removed permanently.

I had the "boarders" done 6 times on one one foot and 4 on the other. When I finally saw an actual "Foot" Surgeon he asked if I wanted the nail gone permanently. I said yes, as I was tired of having stuff done to them. He numbed me up so well I felt nothing.

After, it was sore for a few days. (nothing the pain meds and some tylenol couldn't handle though) So don't worry. A couple of days and it's all good. I wasn't ever in any real pain. You'll be fine. Promise.

Comrade, please tell me they are numbing you.

I have done this before, but it was not removed on purpose.

When I was in the supermarket once, my foot was run over by a cart.

I was wearing sandals, comrade. Sandals.

    My toenail was gone.

    It was painful.

    I bled.
