I realized earlier I was having quite the tiff with myself!
For some reason I always catch myself coming up with arguments I would use in certain cirucumstances, but saying them out loud :p I don't think anyone heard me though.
@Rachel&Michael: Me too! Whenever I talk to myself it's directed at someone who isn't really there.
How strange. I feel like a complete LOON.
@Lyra: I don't usually say it, but I thought it sounded good :P

Yes, I talk to myself. Not to the extent that I've seen other people do it, though. At the writing camp, last week, there was this guy who was watching Obama speak one night. And he was just sitting there talking to himself. Like, saying, "You're completely right." And, "That's very true." Among other things.
When I talk to myself, it's more an exclamation of sorts. Like if I drop something, I might go, "Oh my goodness, that isn't good!" Or I might talk to my dogs, which is technically the same as talking to myself. For example, I could be watching something on TV and reacting out loud to it. If it's something funny, I could be going, "That's so funny, and he's so stupid, and this should happen." And then I'll look at whichever dog is present (one of them always is) and go, "Right Snoopy/Rover?" So it's not like I'm having full on conversations with myself. But still.
Usually I talk to myself when people aren't around. If people were there, I'd be talking to *them*. Not like that guy from the writing camp. And I don't get embarrassed if people *do* catch me. I just smile a bit sheepishly. How often does it happen? Um. Maybe once every day or once every few days. Like I said, it's more like quiet exclamations to myself and sometimes I'll look to my dog for confirmation. In case you were wondering, by the way, my dogs always agree with me. Unless they decide at that very moment to shake their heads the way dogs to, and then I'll get more into a conversation. But lets not go there.
I always realize it's happening. I don't think much of it, though.
And since when do you say "tiff?" O.o
Edit: Yeah, I have conversations with myself in my head all the time, too. Just not out loud :p

Before answering this question I told myself that I don't do that. I lied to myself.
The usual circumstances? Sometimes I have a secret that I am not allowed to share with anyone, so I'll share it with myself. Other times I have disagreements with myself. You know how sometimes you get conflicted on what to do? When that happens, I talk it out between myself and I. Or whenever I'm nervous about meeting with someone, I'll practice out loud what I am going to say, while also responding in the other person's voice.
There's also the occasional talk with things that cannot talk back. My dog, the television, my Beatles poster, etc.
Do people notice? I didn't think so until recently. Apparently, when I go to the gym and use one of the machines, my lips move like I'm talking. Which I am. To myself. I was just a little embarrassed. Now I try to hide my conversations better.
How often? Eh. Depends on how I am feeling. If I'm really happy or really angry, I talk nonstop. Otherwise, it only happens occasionally. I'm not that insane.
Do I realize it's happening? Some five minutes into the discussion, I will stop and wonder what I'm doing. Before that, though, I don't even notice.
Edit: Something just happened which I though I might add to this. I was at the gym, doing a cardio workout to really upbeat music. My excuse is that I was ridiculously tired. When I started my cool down, I felt that I couldn't handle the fast music. Desperate for something slower, I said quietly to myself, but with great emphasis, "Get me Billy Joel!" Everyone just looked at me... Awkward.

All the time! haha...
When i talk to myself it's like i direct it too someone who isn't there. like a school friend.. but there not there. Oh gosh this prob. sounds crazy haha!
I don't know why i do.. i guess cuz i'm bored, or noones around.. or i'll just say what i'm thinking out loud.. which would then strike a convo with myself? LOL.
Some of my school friends notice it lol, they just stare ha. Sometimes i will cuz i'll be talking to myself but no words would come out, just my lips would move lol. so yeah when that happens i get embarassed.
Mostly everyday i talk to myself.. Ehh i need some friends LOL.
50/50 on if i realize it or not.
bye-bye!!

What are the usual circumstances when you begin talking to yourself?
Yes, I talk to myself and it's usually when I'm on a high or when I'm really stressed out. Or if I'm really busy at the moment trying to remember things, I'll say them aloud to myself so that I won't forget what I need to do.
Do people ever notice? Do you get embarrassed?
Yes, people notice. I do get embarrassed. When I'm stressed out, I'm one who tends to kind of pull back from the world, and I'm usually not in a good mood, so it's hard to embarrass me then because I just don't care. If I'm talking to myself because I'm on a high and someone notices me doing it, I get really embarrassed and laugh it off, or grin really wide then stop.
How often does it happen?
Not too often.
Do you even realize it's happening?
Yes, thank God I realize it's happening, so I can stop when I need to! :)
**That's the same thing I do, too! It'll usually go like this, "Goldfish, you were so stupid saying that! Why would you say that? Now you've gone and scared them off. Are you crazy? Do you want people to think you're crazy? Why would you do such a thing? Sometimes you're too weird even for my taste."
Haha, yeah, I am just plain weird sometimes.

I have full conversations with myself. Sometimes arguments, and I start making up excuses and reasons... to try and reason with myself.
What are the usual circumstances when you begin talking to yourself?
-- Usually when I'm bored I start talking to myself; but I do that quite often in the shower.. I would think of something arguable then I start arguing with myself until I resolve it.
Do people ever notice? Do you get embarassed?
-- Sometimes they do, especially in class! One time in my mundane biology class I suddenly thought of a plot hole in Harry Potter, or at least I thought it was a plot hole, and quite suddenly I said, out loud: "No, that couldn't be a plot hole!!! Moody saw Harry underneath the cloak.." I literally forgot where I was and said that out loud, and my teacher was like "... excuse me?" then I was struck with the fact that I was still in class, supposedly paying attention to whatever was going on...
And yes, it was quite embarrassing. ;P
How often does it happen?
-- Oh loads of times hahaha, today I was in the supermarket with my mum and I was talking to myself about space, and what we might need to build a planet..
Do you even realize it's happening?
-- Yes, but when it's too late to cover it up.. usually I stop when I notice that everyone stopped talking and started looking at me. It's so awkward...

Yes, I do talk with myself on many occasions, I believe that everyone talks with themselves at one point in time, I mean, its basically the same as thinking out loud.
People do not usually notice when Im talking to myself, or it may be that Im not aware of thier noticing it, however Im not embarrased about it since I figure that every human does this at least once, its nothing to be ashamed of.
I am conscious of when I talk with myself, I use it as a planning method.

I converse with myself, pacing back and forth in the kitchen. I talk to myself during tests too, wondering aloud whether the answer is correct - it's gotten me in trouble four times now :P
So, in regards to your question, yes. I do talk to myself. Quite frequently for that matter.
Do people notice: sometimes, I guess. They normally think I'm talking to someone else. I do get very embarrassed. It's more of a subconscious thing like me biting my nails and twisting my hair.
I only realize when it becomes a heated argument. Like the other day, I was arguing with myself whether to have a red apple or a green apple, and I got kind of - err - a little shirty with myself.
Then I'll walk into Alex's room, talking to myself, and she's like "what?"
It's good to know there are more of us out there.

Every day.
I mutter a lot when I'm pissed off.
Usually, I'm talking to my boyfriend. Says a lot about the relationship, huh?
It's usually unintelligible, though.
Yeah, people notice. The boyfriend ignores it because it's so common, and he knows it'll all come out sometime within the next five minutes anyhow. Everybody else just looks at me like I'm insane.
I don't get embarrassed. People shouldn't be paying that much attention to the things that come out of my mouth anyhow =]
I'm sure they hear things they could have gone their whole lives without knowing.
Nope, I don't. Not unless it's pointed out.

I talk to myself quite a bit.
I even go as far as to hold little conversations with myself. I think everyone talks to themselves, but the things that most people say on the insides, I say a loud...
Like before when I was discussing with myself what I wanted to have for lunch... yeah... a whole 5 minute conversation with myself out the pros and cons of having a sandwich. I didn't even realize I was talking out loud until my sister was laughing at me.
I often make up songs and sing them to myself.

What are the usual circumstances when you begin talking to yourself?
It's usually when I have conversations with myself, or I pretend I'm another person talking to me, etc. Yeah.
Do people ever notice? Do you get embarassed?
Apparently they do notice @_@. I was talking with a friend in study hall last year, and she said that she sometimes talked to herself. I was a little surprised and said I did too. She then replied, "Yeah, I know. I've heard you." Is that not horrifying?
How often does it happen?
Umm...every day?
Do you even realize it's happening?
Pretty consciously, which makes it even weirder.
