No, a Celeron is a step down from a Pentium 4. The best processor this motherboard will accept is a 2.8Ghz Pentium 4 with 533MHz front-side bus. It's a very slow motherboard by today's standards.
Look in Start > Control Panel > System to see what your current processor speed is.
Although you might be able to get a slight improvement by upgrading the processor, only a new computer will give you major performance gains.
Increasing memory will also help, if your budget doesn't allow a new computer.

Celeron processors have certain high-end processor features disabled (like dual processing or multiprocessing). The Celerons are also slower than similar-clocked Pentiums due to smaller L2 cache size and sometimes slower bus speed.

Celeron is crap.Any pentium is better, but socket 478 is ancient history.Don't waste any money on this old computer.

Go to the manufacture site with all your mobo info and see what will fit. Then you will be able to make your own decision.
