Will you wear a helmet now that Fat Boy died?
Bruce Rossmeyer, owner of the largest Harley dealership on the planet, as well as a dozen others plus some car stuff, died on the way to Sturgis today. He was riding with a group of folks from here in FL, and decided to pass a truck pulling a trailer who made a left turn in front of him.
The truck's lights and signals were working fine. Fat Boy wasn't wearing his helmet, because like all other RUB's, helmets just don't look cool on your Harley.
For the record, I've hit an 18-wheeler head on and lived to tell about it. I was wearing a full face helmet, like I always do.
Will you start wearing one now?

I read in the end he was found under the truck. I am not a doctor but I am fairly positive a helmet wont save you from a truck on top of you. I also read the truck turned into him after 4 other bikes had passed the truck. He hit left front door. Meaning he was more than half way passed the truck pulling camper. At that point who cares if the driver is signaling. The driver of the truck obvious either didn't see him or wasn't paying attention. Your tone makes it sound as if he is at fault. Proof that a helmet will guarantee no brain injury at highway speed does not exist except in bias opinion. Yea prevents abrasion. It also a helmet increases chances of neck or spinal injury. Yea I am sure your gonna argue that based on what report you choose to buy into. At the same time, I never hear helmet lovers argue proper foot or other apparel. My favorite thing to see is the young sport biker with helmet on with matching tank top, shorts and sandals. Fortunately I live in a state that allows me to think for myself. I can do the research and determine if the safety equipment really provides the protection I need. I don't wear a helmet now or ever will. Has and never has been based on what looks cool. Its based on what do I believe gives best odds on safety.

Accidents happen and the outcome is not always the way we'd like. A helmet does not guarantee you'll survive a crash. It's a false sense of security. I don't wear a helmet and the next time I'm out riding I won't be wearing one either. Nothing about this sad story shouts out if he was wearing a helmet he would have survived. Why are those that wear helmets so obsessed with trying to get those of us that don't wear them, to wear them? You don't see questions on here from helmetless riders trying to force those that wear helmets to ride without them. Why is that?

I don't care about looking cool or what the next guy does. I always wear a helmet. Common sense tells you that if there is even a slight chance that your head may be run into a brick wall, you'd rather have something on your head to protect it. I love riding and I love my life, so I'll take any advantage to live to ride another day. If you don't care about you, think of your kids and other loved ones who'll be standing over your hospital bed looking at you in a perpetually vegetative state. I can also assure you that my opinion is founded on personal experiences.

stable question! i think of the clarification why is with the aid of the fact they are only going to tension on the city, yet they nonetheless a minimum of positioned on a helmet. whilst i'm out on the line I see bike drivers rather plenty whilst the climate is heat, and at circumstances I see bike drivers not donning helmets collectively as they are on the cycle in spite of if or not they seem to be a passenger or the driving force. on occasion, I see the driving force in a T-shirt, shorts and turn flops and/or sandals. On a uncommon occasion, i'm going to verify somebody in all bike dresses which contain a leather-based jacket, long pants, boots, etc. What concerns me is that in the event that they become in contact in an twist of fate and that they don't have the suitable dresses on.

I've been in a bike wreck where I was specifically told by the emergency room, my insurance company, and the police that if I was wearing a full faced helmet my neck would have snapped either killing me or making me a cripple. I was wearing a 10 ounce beanie. You will never convince me that I'm safer by putting 3 or 4 pounds of extra weight on my head that it makes me safer. I wear a full faced helmet for weather protection. The only thing a full helmet saves is a face for an open casket funeral, and I'm not ready for my funeral and don't particularly care if it's open casket or not.
Newsflash... in most accidents, your helmet is wearing you for protection.

Wearing a helmet is a personal choice. I choose to wear one, and others don't. A helmet is like a seat belt in a sense. I was involved in an accident that had I been wearing my seatbelt, I would have been dead. It is a safer option usually, but, it won't necessarily keep you from getting killed. I enjoy riding a motorcycle alot. Sometimes I choose not to wear a helmet! If my day comes, I will die! Helmet or not!

I didn't know him, but I feel a small loss whenever someone dies on a 'cycle.
It will not change how I make my choices.
Looking "cool" or riding the HD hasn't got much to do with that.
I will wear it when it rains, is cold, or I am forced to.
Wearing a helmet does not compensate for making stupid choices on the road. People die either way.

The vast majority of people who die in motorcycle accidents were wearing helmets. Will you stop wearing yours?
How about this guy: http://www.snopes.com/photos/accident/tulsacrash.a...
He was wearing his helmet. Didn't do him much good.
It is a Statistical Fact that the States that mandate safety helmets, the States with the highest percentage of helmeted riders, have a higher per accident death rate than the States where not everyone wears a helmet. Do you care why?

Didn't the guy who owned the big HD dealer in Charlotte die a couple years ago, from almost the same type of accident?
